You should take a few moments to read through this.
It can be kind of hidden away, but it's useful for people who haven't yet participated in an Open Design project.
See you in the posts!

Wolfgang - you should be able to make this thread a sticky, so Ben doesn't have to bump it. (I'm assuming you're a moderator on your own forums anyway.) _________________ John Ling

I have no idea how to make it sticky. I'll go rattle it around a bit. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

Assuming you have mod access... You should be able to click an "Edit" button on the first post. Underneath the window where the post is typed will be a bunch of check box options, that include things like "Disable BBCode," "Attach Signature," and so on. Right under those checkbox fields will be something along the lines of:
| Code: |
| Post topic as: Normal Sticky Announcement |
And each option will have a "radio button" in front of it. By default, "Normal" is selected. "Sticky" makes the thread appear at the top of the first page. "Announcement" makes the thread appear at the top of every page. Pick the option you want, then press the submit button.
And incidentally, you should be able to delete all these posts from this thread, too. If you need help with that, let me know and I can post directions for that as well. _________________ John Ling

I took Fray's advice and stuck some gum to it. Then I took Zherog's advice and went to the first post and clicked some clicky things.
One of those worked. Thanks, gents! _________________ Wolfgang Baur

| Hey, new guy here, the link says about adventures. Do you also do open design for classes or similar things? |

Each patron project is different and you have to read the pitch for each one. Most of them involve adventures but theres a few campaign setting books that have been done as well. |

| Okay, thanks. And how much does it usually cost if you want to start an Open Design for something? |

Depends. Most of the projects so far have started small and gotten more ambitious as more patrons supported them.
The next couple topics for Open Design have been brainstormed and pitched among the patrons for existing projects. So that's the way to start the ball rolling if you want your project to be considered for next time out.
Most often, people don't pitch a whole project as their first contribution to design; lots of people start by submitting a monster, item, playtest report, or mini-adventure for an existing project. If other patrons like it, in it goes.
Over time, those patrons who do good design tend to wind up as lead designers on new projects.
That's not the only option, but it's the most common one. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

Okay, I think.
I was just kinda wondering, because there's one kind of non-common class that I think has never really gotten the attention and treatment in crafting it that it deserves, and would like to try to make sure it gets proper treatment and dedication in crafting it for Pathfinder, for a change, and Open Design seems like it might help with that.
I'm still pretty darn new here, so it may take a little while before I kinda fully "get" the whole open design method as far as actually starting something and who does what and can do what for starting it instead of just contributing to it once it's already going into consideration. Thanks for answering my questions so far! |

I would pitch it to Kobold Quarterly. That's also a good place to build up experience. You send the short pitch with an estimated wordcount and (presuming a good pitch) get a greenlight to write it up for the next issue. Now's a great time, because you've got a good three(ish) months to spin up an article, playtest it and polish it.

I'll keep that in mind, but I'm still not exactly sure about pitching what I got for it yet.
Would there be much chance to bounce it around between one or two professional game designers or similar and a few players who really like the class idea, to help work out the kinks?
(Not trying to give it away, this is a class dealing pretty heavily in a part of the game that's been incredibly hard for people to balance just by itself, let alone for a class that deals almost exclusively in that part) |

Well, a pitch is always pretty rough. You'd give the basic concept, what you feel it would need for wordcount (maybe) what the article would cover, that sort of thing. I'd use the monk variants, the spell-less ranger or the arquebusier articles as guidelines on the kinds of details to consider.
