He is the only writer of horror to actually give me nightmares, and I mean the kind you're shaking off for the next several hours. I first read him in junior high in S. Texas, and he made it so much more interesting to stare out at the Gulf of Mexico from atop a Padre Island dune at night, not to mention looking up from there at the stars. Mind expansion with the written word.
I think the best thing I can say about a particular writer is that they've made my life a hell of a lot more interesting, and opened up new worlds to me that I'm grateful to have experienced. H.P. Lovecraft is definitely up there at the top of that list, with some fascinating company.
