Hello there,

And particularly to Afbeer, who "worked" on "From Shore to the Sea", the last project I actually participated in instead of merely sponsoring. Same questions as Afbeer from me also, and some others:

How long for?

I mean, this is a campaign setting, so I guess more time should be given for the project to reached conclusion than a mere adventure or collection thereof.

Theme or focus.

I guess there are enough generic settings out there, Golarion is great but like FR, it seems to have a country/nation for every single type of play. Could Midgard at large be a setting with a theme? I am not talking standard fantasy vs. steampunk or something like that, but a theme like "Dwarven centric", Old/First World (Tales of the Old Margreve), something that makes it different.

Part of Midgard is obviously packed with Dwarves, subterranean undeads and Kobolds as per the previous projects. The question remains: Would the setting as a whole expand by spreading the taste and feel of the existing material or are there plans for it to expand with the generic kingdom/nations we all already know about (LG nice guys, evil kingdom, 1,001 nights, Vikings, etc ) from existing standard catch-all settings already out there?

As for my edition war contribution I vote for Pathfinder RPG. Smile

Laurent,

Ok, I fixed the pricing glitch and it is now correct. Thanks for pointing out the error Xellos!

Lord Slaavik, the project will be split into regional phases, likely 5 unless the funding makes it possible to do more. Each region will have multiple regions, a coherent culture and pantheon for that region, and will be released as a part of the larger work, edited and laid out. So, while the whole design will likely take a year, you'll have goodies in hand and usable by this summer for the first couple regions.

For patron pitches, there's room to pitch on a mechanical track, a character and creature track, and -- for the major patrons -- a setting track for particularly important elements like towns, demon lords, secret societies, cities, etc. That's briefly listed in the patronage writeup in the Store, but here's the rundown:

Patron -- Submit characters, monsters and items to the mechanical track, ie, stats. Also critique and choose from the elements submitted by the other patrons.
Senior Patron -- Submit NPCs, magic, and monster concepts
Major Donor -- Submit your own kings, queens, towns, guilds, and secret societies to the setting
Sponsor – Submit whole cities, new gods, demon lords, archdevils, and dungeons to the setting.

@Afbeer, essays are the versions posted here. The handbook compiles the essays.

Wolf, your editorial in KQ 16 says, "Two
additional freelancers or patrons may sign on as regional
designers as well."

Did you have some freelancer folks in mind, or can someone vie for a position? Smile

I think I might allow myself to be tempted again...
When I have the time I shall register later this week and look at the material.

Never done a campaign setting before, this could be fun.

Do i understand correctly, that a regional discussion is access to senior patron boards during regional phases and regional content is available in standard boards?

Looks like we need to define "region" and "regions within regions" with a different word, unless we end up with an OOTS gag on "spell level".

The regional discussion is open to all patrons. Senior patrons see more text early in the process, and can add their own characters and setting elements.

@Christina, I don't have particular people in mind for those additional freelancers. I suspect they'll be senior patrons or major donors who pitch to help out with those elements and win a runoff vote by all patrons.

I'll be bringing my usual good ideas too. Maybe this time I'll write them myself Wink Laughing

Jim, delighted to hear you're in for this one!

And yes, I do hope you write up some of your grand ideas, but if not: hey, it could be worse than having me, Brandon, and Jeff do it, right? Smile

I'm in for this - posted in the Crossroads.

Are we taking votes here for game systems and first regions to develop? Insofar as it will change anything, I'm most interested in Pathfinder. Development for Dragon Age sounds intriguing, though I know very little about the system.

Yes, votes for the system will happen in the patron forum soon. I have heard support for Pathfinder, 4E, and Dragon Age.
