It's Christmas or your birthday or...
Would you rather get:
(1) a card
(2) $5
(3) a pint of beer
(4) other
My point? I hate getting cards. They are a waste of money and dead trees. Give me something I can use, like money or a beer or... or nothing at all. Don't give me something I have to pretend to enjoy, and then have to throw away (when you're not around, so I don't offend you) as soon as you walk out the door.

I'm OK with a card, if it's the vehicle for delivering the cash or the gift card. But if all you're giving me is a card, yeah, no thanks.
Two exceptions: 1) my grandmother is allowed to give me a card and nothing else. 2) My kids are allowed to make me a card. _________________ John Ling

I don't know... I commission an artist to do our Christmas Card every year and send it out to about forty people.
It has the plus of being very unique. But it also magnifies the typical cost of a greeting card substantially.
That said, we only send gifts to nieces and nephews, so all most people are getting from us is the card.

Unless it's a really cool card, like those Paizonians got Christmas acrds from Paizo and that was awesome. _________________

Christmas cards are a little different, I guess. But only because we use them to decorate one small wall in our house. _________________ John Ling

Oh, I certainly wouldn't turn down a pint. And a pint is most definitely better than a folded piece of paper that I'm going to throw away. (except the ones my kids made - they get tucked away in a box in my closet.) _________________ John Ling

| Maybe I just shouldn't decorate my wall with beer. |

My wife is a calligrapher, so I pretty much have to like greeting cards. I'm pretty sure it was in our vows. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

Way to ruin it, Wolfgang.
Still, beer when applicable. Thank you. |

See, that's a real toughie. I hate after Christmas and birthdays when I go to throw the cards out. I usually save them in the envelopes with the stamps and addresses because someone remembered us. Years later, it's been cool to find a bag with 20 old cards and stamps and get a little jolt of nostalgia. I then immediately gripe about running out of space. I am conflicted of course!
This year I had been thinking of making Christmas cards. I think it would be more fun somehow. |

I generally only give out cards for Halloween and birthdays, but it's usually to deliver a personal message or letter of some sort.
Money or beer is nice too. |
