So ive been a part of the Midgard project for about a month now, and Im finding it very difficult "find my place" per se. Perhaps its because Ive come into the middle of a project, but the amount of info is so overwhelming, and as I try to give input into a discussion, my posts seem like they are pretty much skipped over as the discussion continues.
This is not a complaint, but more a request for some guidance. What is the best way for a basic patron to get involved? Ive spent lots of time working on world design, but never in this format, so Im kinda feeling like im swimming in the deep end and cant find the side of the pool, lol.
Any advice, even "Your a whiner, shut up!" would be really appreciated. |

A couple of things I'll mention- and I have fairly limited experience as well- is that you might not see the efforts of your brainstorm participation until there's actually some kind of draft out. ^_^ From what I've seen, the people who do end up writing go back through the brainstorms and use that material to generate text. Some posts spark more discussion than others, but even those that don't are going to be considered. I feel fairly confident that all participation is welcome. ^_^
You may or may not directly participate in the writing itself, depending on what's open for pitching, patron voting, and your time/availability. Those opportunities are a bit more rare then brainstorm opportunities, but keep an eye out on the announcement threads for them, too. |

Don't give up! Because one of your posts isn't mentionned after it has been put in a forum does't mean that it haven't been read. Many other regions will be covered later and you will have a chance to see them from the start like everyone else and to contribute your ideas for them.
Like Xellos mentionned keep an eye from the announcement threads. Thus, the next time a forum begins you will be ready! |

I'd agree with the prior advice (and yes, I do read everything, and I know Brandon reads all the Wasted West material).
The biggest opportunities go to both the biggest patrons and the most active posters on a topic, and there's always going to be some topics that are more appealing than others.
Also, each regions starts with a blank slate, making it easier to make your mark on those than the older and more-heavily-discussed sections. If the goblins and wizards of the Wastes are not your thing, we'll be starting up the slavers and nomads of the Steppes soon enough, and then the more cultured nobles of the Domains of the Princes, elemental power of the Dragon Empire, and the dark lords of the Crossroads. Maybe one of those will click more than the current one.
That said: Some posts do go nowhere, which is inevitable in any creative collaboration with more than two people. And that's fine. Brainstorms are a place to figure out what DOES get a reaction, and see what feedback to a lead designer generates further sparks.
Midgard is the largest and most ambitious project Open Design has ever done. That means a lot time in design, a lot of changes of pace over the run of the project, and a LOT of opportunities still to come. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

Thanks for the tips guys. Im not looking to garner a writing credit here, that definitely belongs to those of greater experience. I DO want to try and make sure that I am being helpful to those that ARE doing the creating.
Definitely sticking with it. |

Being new to the process as well, I found more success with buidling upon popular ideas, and adding some new twists. But read up and post when a topic is important to you. Overall, alot of my ideas didn't make it, but I can defintely see some influences; however minor. I just wish more people would particpate, but it depends on how discouraged you get when a story or design element you are totally in love with doesn't appear to see the light of day. I just write it off as experience learned and move onto the next subject. Some people are better at expressing ideas, and for people like me, it takes a little practice.
There you have it, an opinion from a first timer, take it with a grain of salt.
