I'm new around here (joined due to interest in Wrath of the River King), and possibly in a minority in that I only play 4E, which got me back playing D&D after a 25 year hiatus. I voted for 4E, and, depending on how I like Wrath, would probably support another 4E project, but have no interest in any of the other systems (specifically 3E).

If 4E is a minority, it is a very large one.

We'll see what happens when the project goes to the commission stage. I spent the last couple months looking at both editions at the same time, and they have their own strengths and weaknesses.

The tragedy of it is that we have the edition wars at all.

I'd support a 4e, but maybe even another edition as well. I've been meaning to get in on one of these for awhile now and I mean to do so on the next one.

This poll currently has a surprisingly tight race between 4E and 3.5, much closer than I expected.

I now feel better raising my voice. KQ, please give me some 4E material!

On the subject of Wrath... basically I'm a fan of "4e in its place" - that is, for an adventure I think it would suit, such as Slaves of the Red Goddess. On the other hand, prior to seeing how it has shaped up, I wouldn't have thought 4e would suit a fairy tale adventure... but Wrath has proved me wrong.

Whether that's creator creativity as opposed to system versatility is up for debate, but either way I think Wrath of the River King will convince a lot of people that you can do great adventures with 4e. Certainly better that Keep on the Shadowfell, anyway.

I haven't read the whole thread, but I'd like to point out two things:

1. The votes for 3.5 vs 4e have been "split" by the pathfinder vote. I think (and I could be wrong) that it's safe to say that any votes for pathfinder would quickly be switched to 3.5 in a 3.5/4e head to head (think perot or nader).

2. I know there is a thread on the WotC boards that is trying to drum up business/votes for this to go 4e. I don't know how that would actually translate into patrons who want to pay if people are less invested because that is their only venue in. (They may be equally invested, however, there are a plethora of 4e adventures coming out--maybe none as good as open design--but there are really very few 3rd edition materials coming out).

And one last thought. It would be ideal if there were always two projects going (one 3rd and one 4th). There would be no need for "wars" if everyone was getting great stuff. The votes could even be separate. If they came up with the same project, it might even save some time/money!

My personal stance is that edition means more to me (right now) than actual topic (though both matter). I was less interested in the topic of Tales of Zobek than in Wrath of the River King. However, I'm a patron of Zobek and not of Wrath. The opposite may be true for those who love 4e.

Wolfgang, you could alternate a guest author and yourself for 3.5 and 4e projects.
