WOOHOO!!
Anybody here a baseball fan? If so, what did you think of the World Series this year? What are your thoughts on how baseball handled Game 5? _________________ John Ling

The Mariners just sucked this year. I want my White Sox. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

I would love to see the Mariners become a winner. I think it's good for baseball, in general, when more teams have a chance to win. I have to admit that like most American League teams, I know very little about the Mariners. Did they have bad luck with injuries, or are they in a down cycle right now?
I've loved baseball my entire life. I can remember as a kid sitting in front of the TV watching the Game of the Week. As I recall, it was broadcast by NBC, and that once-a-week game was the only chance you had to see teams outside your local market. Even in the local market (at least here), not every game was on TV. I can remember laying in bed, pretending to be asleep so my parents wouldn't get mad; but all the while, I had my earplug in with my transistor radio tuned to the broadcast. Harry Kallas and Richie Ashburn were as much a part of my life as anything else.
I was utterly devastated by the player strike in 94-95, and angry at the sport for a long time. I didn't watch a single game from the time they resumed in 95 until the summer of 98. Like many other people, I was mesmerized by McGwire and Sosa chasing Roger Maris's single-season record. Thankfully, by the time we learned they were frauds, the Phillies were getting good again. So while the steroids scandal angered me - and still does, I think it's Selig's largest of many failures - it wasn't enough to drive me away from the game a second time.
It's been well documented in the news about how bad the sports scene is in this area. The last time any of the four major teams won before this was when the 76ers won in 83. The last time the Phillies won was 1980; the last time the Flyers won was 1975; the last time the Eagles won was 1960 -- before the Super Bowl even existed! It's been pretty amazing around here the past couple of days. People are happier, they're smiling more, they're laughing more. They're expecting somewhere between 2 and 3 million people on Broad Street today for the parade.
In short, it's been a long road to get here, but damn is it a fun time to be a Phillies fan! _________________ John Ling

The Phillies done good.
I confess, I'm mostly a fair weather fan for both Mariners and ChiSox, so... I haven't kept up. I do like the way the World Series panned out, though, because I'm just so sick of seeing the Yankees in it. _________________ Wolfgang Baur
