| So, now that Tales is out, what are the first steps in starting a new project, and what's the timeline on that? I imagine Wolfgang would love a holiday vacation, but I'm curious when I can start to see this process from the beginning. |

I don't think any new project will be started until Wrath is finished as well, so I suspect commissioning of the next project will occur sometime in January.
I can't wait either, but that's the way it goes. I'm hoping I get to run Wrath for Christmas though. |

I'm looking forward to information on the next one; I'm giving serious consideration to purchasing a patronage account. _________________ John Ling

Deinol is correct: Wrath has to ship and I need to have a proper weekend (someday!) before the next one starts up.
And then there's KQ#8, waiting in the wings. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

I thought that wrath was already finished. my bad.
January seems pretty reasonable, I wasn't really expecting it any time soon. Just wanted to make sure I didn't miss out. |

Understandable.. but the Commissioning takes a while. Blood of the Gorgon went pretty quick, probably due to the celebrity status of Nick Logue, but Tales and Wrath both took a while to Commissioned.
Albeit those two were somewhat competing. The fact that they both got commissioned at the same time speaks to the fact that they had both patrons dedicated to specific Editions.
In any case, it seems to take at least a couple weeks if not longer. It all depends on how quick the donations come.
AND.. the cut off date to become a patron of any project is pretty late into the development stage. I do believe the minimum donation requirement does increase, but you can still join up. Based on previous comments, I'm to understand those late donations historically help offset the Map and Art budget (which often could use a boost).
Obviously, its best to be a patron from the very first moment, because that's where you're going to enjoy the most value for your donation.. but there is no "falling portcullis" that you have to dive under or otherwise miss out.
All of this is to say, if you even check this board once a week you're in ZERO peril of missing it |

I'm hammering out the layout right now. The Delve format is a tricky, tricky business. |

As PR/News minion, you can be certain that I will be hitting the electronic bricks and putting out the word as soon as discussion begins on a new patronage drive for OD#8. It will be posted to Kobold Quarterly, which means you should get an email update, if you've subscribed... or you could get a twitter update, or see it on our myspace or facebook page, or read it on an enworld scoop, or posted to one of the many forums...
Yes, we'll make sure you know when the next project opens up for discussion!

yes but will i get a notice about being able to commision it rather than discuss it |
Of course! That's part of what the drive will be-- asking for patrons to sign on. Usually, (if I'm not recalling incorrectly!) that's how the final commission is determined, by which project meets it's greenlight level first. You say, "I want to see Wolfgang do The Project I like Best, here's my $30 for a standard patronage or $100+ for a senior patronage," and hopefully, that's the one that reaches greenlight first. If you don't want to be a part of that project, then your money is returned to you.
Now your comment also reminds me that Wolfgang is willing to commission a project for a lone patron, you just need (and this number is dated, so I would want to confirm it with Wolfgang) $5000 and he'll punch something out for you and you alone.
If I'm mistaken, please correct me, Wolfgang... but that's pretty much been how it's been done for the last five projects, with the possible exception of Wrath, which was predetermined from announcement.

Yep, that's pretty much the way it's gone. Some project have had a small buy-in (Arabian Nights and Tales both at $25 for the first wave of patrons, I believe).
This time it's complicated by the competing editions. I'm not sure I have a great solution for that, but for many people, edition is clearly more important than content. So I'll try to address that aspect as well. _________________ Wolfgang Baur
