| I am still at the very initial stages of looking at Zobeck. One of the big things I was looking for was Gearforged, and now I am not entirely sure how I feel about them. Anyone have any more insight to offer on how they may or may not work as a PC race based on actual play? |

Well, they'll have the +20 bonus hit points, and possibly the low-light and darkvision-- so at 1st level they'd have roughly 3 times the hit points of other fighter... given the lack of stabilizing, and the difficult-healing-thing, I think it fairly balances. Hmmm, I'd be interested to see them in play.

| I missed that. Where do they go bonus hit points at start? |

That's by virtue of being a medium construct.

The gearforged do not gain the +20 bonus hit points of other constructs. I would have mentioned it if they did, and would have had to provide a level adjustment.
They're still on the strong side for +0, but that many extra HP would definitely kick them over to +2 or so. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

Hi,
I was wondering if I am the only who wants to know EXACTLY how you become a Gearforged?
Can you transfer your Sorcerer level 12 into a Gearforged? (Since how they were created by transfering souls...)
I really want more info on this. I like the concept A LOT!

That should be an Unearthed Arcana ritual magic sort of process, and yes, it is definitely possible. Zobeck's Gearforged provide a sort of a second life for adventurers who grow old, frankly.
Hm. Maybe something for Gazetteer Vol 2, or for KQ. Great idea. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

KQ! I've been wondering (a lot) about this same issue since the Gearforged were announced.
It would make for a damn fine article in KQ. Perhaps even the Zobeck sheet on the backpage? (Although I'd really love to see a longer article on it in KQ.)
Human souls, given machine bodies - very ghost in the machine.
EDIT: Maybe a trap the soul variant spell? |

I think KQ is a fine place for it, but I'm a little worried when I hear you say "longer article", Eyebite.
Because really, the magazine is only about 64 pages long... _________________ Wolfgang Baur

heh
Oh, ok then. How about "an article you deem to be the appropriate size" instead? |

Let me officially say I am looking forward to that!!!!!!!
Thanks!
Patrick
PS: And this ''short'' version of Gearforged PCs is not what I was looking forward to the most I have to admit, but this whole intro to Zobeck is really excellent!
I have the amazing Ptolus Big Book and use some of it right now (I am waiting for my next campaign for full blown Ptolus). But Zobeck just meshes seamlessly with my ongoing campaign in Ravenloft. That is definitely a major strength for this (for any) product!!! |
