| What is anyone doing with concentration for drinking potions in combat or for the Warblade (from tome of battle)? |

Can you clarify? I don't require a concentration check to down a potion in combat-- do you?
And what's your question regarding Warblades and concentration?

Much like Ben, I don't require a Concentration check for drinking a potion in combat. Perhaps you're talking about this part of the rules?
| SRD, potions wrote: |
| Drinking a potion or using an oil on an item of gear is a standard action. The potion or oil takes effect immediately. Using a potion or oil provokes attacks of opportunity. A successful attack (including grappling attacks) against the character forces a Concentration check (as for casting a spell). If the character fails this check, she cannot drink the potion. An enemy may direct an attack of opportunity against the potion or oil container rather than against the character. A successful attack of this sort can destroy the container. |
If so, I don't recall ever actually using that rule, to be honest. However, it's pretty straight forward. Drinking the potion provokes an attack of opportunity. If that AoO is successful, the potion drinker must succeed on a Concentration check with a DC equal to 10 plus the damage dealt.
I don't have Tome of Battle, so I won't be much help there. However, like Ben (again) I'd appreciate if you'd elaborate on the question. _________________ John Ling

Hum, I thought I had read the core 3.5 rules from cover to cover, and while I did assume that an AOO was generated, I did not know that a concentration check was needed to drink the potion if a hit was scored or that you could use the AOO to take a swing at the potion.
Interesting…. Personally, I like rules like this because it helps my immersion. I think it would be hard to drink a potion while an Orc was trying to cleave you into pieces with an axe. |

I knew you could attack the object - it's just like any other sunder attack, really. But I didn't remember the Concentration check. *shrug* learn something new every day, I guess. _________________ John Ling

We used the rule as is in combat... mostly the fighter types will drink a potion while not within AoO range... it's not like they have skill points for Concentration anyways...
What's the Warblade question? |
