I've found it very easy to get lost in all the discussion when using LiveJournal. I miss many new posts and the reply tree format gets a bit confusing for me. Is there an easy way to see only new posts? I have been just scrolling through and checking the dates and times on the posts, but when a post/thread gets above 35 or so posts, it gets a bit muddy.

Any assistance is appreciated. Public mocking would be humorous as well. Wink

I'll be trying to split up the brainstorm this weekend into smaller topics.

But yeah, the volume of ideas has been fantastic, and a lot of it is usable. I think this is going to be a great adventure and setting.

Have you ever considered using a messageboard setup for OD projects? Would that type of setup be too difficult to divide the different levels of patronage? Perhaps have more security holes? Just wondering out loud.

I was wondering the same thing earlier, Adam.

My hunch is that when this started back in '06, Wolfgang didn't have message boards, and Live Journal was free and easy.

I'm pretty sure the forum software could accommodate those varying levels of access one way or another. For example, it's possible to create a forum and then make that forum only visible to users who are members of a particular group.

You're both right. I have considered messageboard software (such as that used right here on KQ.com), and wouldn't mind migrating if I felt more confident that it could do what I want. I'm not up on the intricacies, and have no funds for an admin/moderator unless there's a volunteer.

And yes, Livejournal is a legacy site that works pretty well for what I need. It is simple, filters users well, and (at the time) the price was right. I'd love to roll over to KQ.com, but.... There's momentum behind all those LJ users.

I fully understand. I suppose I'm just much more accustomed to brainstorming and working with a messageboard system.

Damnit! I'm already lost.

I truly envy you guys who have the time (or at least a better method) to weed through all the comments for which ones are newest in the handful of posts. I'll try to catch back up closer to the weekend.

If anyone has any tips for how to organize myself, I'd love to hear them. Watcher, I think, shared a little gem recently that I hadn't realized regarding being able to change your vote. Things like that would even help. Navigating LJ is a nightmare for me and I would love to see what I might be doing wrong to make it so frustrating.

Thanks in advance!

For what it's worth, the initial burst of activity does always slow down a bit.

Speaking of Live Journal problems... How the hell do you format a post? How do you bold words? How do you link to somebody's name? I just can't figure out anything beyond basic text...

I finally figured some of that out...I think. The real intent of this thread wasn't for me to piss and moan about being confused, but rather to get some of the OD veterans (don't make me name names) to lend a hand and spill some tips for the new guys and gals.

John, I think the formatting uses <> instead of []

OK, so it uses HTML instead of boards code. That covers things like bold, italic and underline most likely.

What about inserting names as links to a live journal name?
