Great question, and YES, New Paths: Spell-Less Ranger has a Hero Lab file, as does New Paths #2: Expanded Shaman. Both of those were originally classes in the magazine, of course.
There are also HL files for some entries in the Advanced Feats series, the Alchemist, the Magus, and... I think the Witch is up next.
You get the HL files when you purchase the PDF.
If you are interested in helping with additional HL conversions, I'd be happy to talk to you about it. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

Hey, I just purchased and downloaded the Spell-Less Ranger PDF and am having a heckuva time importing the file into Hero Lab.
Any hints?
Thanks,

It is a file with a .hl extension, or some other file extension? I had the uncompiled version on the site early on, and I thought it was replaced.
Shoot an email to me @koboldquarterly.com and I may a fix. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

I've now bought the Shaman here and at Paizo and can confirm that neither contains the HeroLab file. The Spell-less Ranger file from Paizo does have one, though I didn't buy it here. Can someone please fix this? I'm planning on using it tomorrow.
Jeff: just in case you weren't successful, the way I imported it for the Spell-less Ranger was:
1. Download and extract the zip to on desktop (just for ease of locating it)
2. Start HeroLab
3. On the first page where you select the game, the third button down on the right-hand side is 'import'. Click that, and then select your file from your desktop (or wherever you like).
4. Make new character, and you'll see the option for 'Spell-less Ranger' right below 'Sorcerer' in the class-selection list. |

I'd be happy to pay for a HL file for The Margreve! I stink at creating new creatures (particularly with new powers). |

I'd be happy to publish more of these (so far, we have them for many of the Divine Favor and Advanced Feats releases), but I don't have enough people to do these conversions. Several of them have been volunteer efforts.
Most of the monsters of the Midgard Bestiary are being converted to HL. I don't have an ETA for that release.
If you are skilled with Hero Lab, please get in touch with me. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

I would not call myself skilled, however, I am currently hammering away at putting feats, traits, races, etc... into Hero Lab in prep for my next campaign. I am a programmer by trade, but just started to learn about customizing Hero Lab.
I would be very interested in helping to make data sets for Midgard a reality, please let me know what I can do. |

kathorus, I'd be insanely happy if you could pick one of the New Paths titles like the Shaman or the Elven Archer or the Spell-Less Ranger, and generate a HL file for the class, feats, and spells in them.
If classes are not your thing, I'd be interested in a more general thing, like the Player's Guides to Midgard. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

I hope the HL folks have another seminar about this topic at one of the cons. I hate that I missed that. I want to know how to do it for my own edification. _________________ Christina Stiles

| I picked up the Spell-less ranger, however, it already has a HL file, so then I went ahead a got the Expanded Shaman and will start to work on that. |

Hi, folks.
I finally found my dusty Hero Lab license, and added Pathfinder support to it. I've got the Spell-less Ranger file in place and it was working well until I went to add my Archery Combat Style feat at level six. I don't have the new options that are supposed to be available (Manyshot, Improved Precise Shot).
For comparison, I built a standard Ranger, and those options are available at 6th level.
This puts a bit of a kink in my plan to have my character all decked out for tomorrow night's game.
Is there a way to get this addressed in the near future?

Hi Geoff,
I would need to look at the file to see what is going on here, a short-term solution, if you are familiar with the HL Editor is to open up the data file and do the following.
1. Click on the Classes Tab.
2. Highlight the Spell-Less Ranger
3. Find the 'Bonus Feats Allowed' Edit button, down underneath the Description Text.
4. Click that button, a dialog box appears. You should be able to find some tags that read 'Bonus For: Ranger Archery Style...' Check these (there is one for each level 2,6,10).
5. Click 'Okay'
6. Click 'Save'
7. Click 'Test Now!'
All of the possible feats should now appear in the list. Obviously this lets you select some before their time, if you are a stickler about that then you can leave the 'Bonus For: ...10' unchecked, it is also not necessary to check the 'Bonus For: ...2' unchecked without ill-effect.
Please note that I am not an employee with Open Design, just a fellow Hero Labs user. I will look at this further later on when I'm not working at my real job to see if there is a better solution.
Happy Gaming |
