Hellooooo, I'm new around these parts so hopefully I'm in the right place...

After some gentle Nagging, Bribery and Cleavage/Ankle Showing, I've finally talked my other half to run Tales of Zobeck and Halls of The Mountain King!

When speaking to Dan (said other half) most of the non-human races around Zobeck sound kinda evil for example shadow fey, kobolds, rampaging centaurs, devil worshipping gypsies... see what I mean?

So I'm here to ask if anyone can give me some suggestion's of a truly nice/good/benevolent race - ideally talky, quirky and setting appropriate.

I'm totally loving the idea of being a Cluracan from KQ4 (muchos grassy ass Scott Gable, loved these guys!)

thanks in advance

Well hello there dear.

Quick - someone else vote and hide my opinion!

Just to clarify, I'm putting Zobeck in my homebrew world rather than an established setting; a smorgasbord of historical times and places with gods and monsters from earth mythology, so ideally I’d like to stick to “real world” creatures and races.

Also, I’ll be beginning Tales with the great Plague of Shadows adventure, so nothing with a level adjustment of more than one.

Well, the gypsies aren't really evil or good as a rule, they are all individuals who choose their own path. If anything, they are religiously ambiguous, and worship both Devils and Angels equally. (Basically, whoever will help them at any given moment.)

The Kariv gypsies get a section in the Halls gazetteer which should clear things up a bit.

The dwarves of the Ironcrags are mostly decent, hardworking types. The humans to the south in the Kingdom of the Magdar are mostly good, as are people of the Republic of Triolo south of the city and the inhabitants of the Dornig states.

The adventures do tend to focus on the bad guys, probably because they are more interesting from an adventuring perspective.

Ha! Trust 'Eyebite' Izachar himself to deny that the Kariv are involved with this "mysterious occult gang" haunting the docks...

Okay, possibly I may have tarred all Kariv with the same brush after reading Wolfgang's Gangs of Zobeck article. Definitely looking forward to a more detailed writeup in the Gazetteer (the crab divination piece was awesome), providing of course its written by someone without a nine-pointed star tattooed on their hand...

(if I suddenly disapear it was him. Someone tell the Praetors!)

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

The Kariv aren't evil, they're just misunderstood.

They just want a hug.

Hello and thanks for the replies.

okie dokie, Humans are no go, spend to much time being one to actually pretend to be one too.

Dwarves, not really my thing I tend to lean more towards chaotic type characters as they tend to be more fun, however Dan has said that the next Gazetteer may change my mind so I'm happy to wait and see.

Gypsies are seeming more and more intriging, also they now seem like a great alibi if I decide to have Dan disposed of.

Still cant get the idea of being a Cluracan Bard out of my head though, I can see it now small naked woman running around pulling random items from her wig of holding!
