| My party has gotten to about 7th level, and they are starting to want to hire people. Mostly they own a shop in Sigil, and feel it has accumulated enough wealth that they want some guards for it. Are there any good supplements out there that deal with pricing npc hirelings? I know there are always circumstances to consider, but a baseline price would be good to establish. I told my group for now npc level squared in gold per day. Does that sound reasonable to people? |

There were charts for this in 1E and 2E. .... I miss having charts for everything. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

There appears to be a bit of information in DMGII, and someone else pointed me to the Arms and Equipment Guide but I haven't checked it out.
I think this would be an excellent article in the Kobold, there just doesn't seem to be that much about it. |

If only some freelancer would query such an article.....
Which also begs the question, what kind of NPCs are your players asking to hire? _________________ Wolfgang Baur

Well, they currently run a shop with level 1 wizard and a level 1 rogue as shopkeepers. The wizard so they can have detect magic available to analyze merchandise. The rogue for her skill in gather info, bluff, diplomacy, appraise, and profession (shopkeeper). They wanted to hire some muscle to keep the place safe while they are off adventuring. So they settled on 2 3rd level fighters and a 4th level fighter as guardsmen.
Little do they know that it won't help much when the Bar-lgura whom they've annoyed too many times now decides to strike and ruin their day. But that's an adventure I'm saving for a later day. |

Yes, so true! So, who do we mention this to in order for Piazio to start thinking about it for Pathfinder?
Until then, when I need a chart, I just go back to my old 1st edition books. Of course, I use the charts only as a starting point, and mess with the numbers a little bit until they feel right - which is what I did even when 1st edition was still the ONLY edition. |

| I forget the publisher, but there are some really good books on Experts and Warriors which I believe gave rules on hiring NPC's. I know it did for the Expert book. |
