Hey everyone,
Odd question here. I'm looking for a good Pathfinder Supplement that presents NPCs with a stat block. Preferably not a book of NPCs specifically, but something that just happens to have NPCs in it, with more than a description and a line that lists what class levels it has. |

The first one I was able to lay my hands on was Greg Vaughn's great first chapter to the Second Darkness AP, "Shadow in the Sky". It takes place in Riddleport, so there are a ton of local NPCs and villains, plus a side adventure that takes place in an old inn-turned-mission house with a bunch of human NPCs plus a bestiary and 1st level pregens, so LOTS of full stat blocks and descriptions. May be hard to find tho' - I obtained mine as swag/barter from the last PaizoCon. So maybe your best bet is to check your local gaming store or online stores for some PF AP supplements.
I know the hardcover "Chained City (Cauldron)" AP is still on sale at Paizo.com for half price ($29.99) but that is 3.5, so don't know if that will do you any good... |

| Yeah 3.5 is not what I want I'm afraid. I'm thinking, that I was correct in a previous assumption that this just isn't done in most Pathfinder Supplements. Not a big deal, it just means I have a few decisions to make in a project I'm working on. |

Ok, good luck with what you are working on, let me know if there is anything else I can do to help (wanna borrow my copy?)

This is a new book, so I have to add the caveat that I haven't laid eyes on it yet.. But it might do the trick.
Rival Guide
And there is the NPC guide... NPC Guide Which you seem to have already have dismissed. However there are at least 7 to 8 NPCs that are fully written up with histories, statblocks, and personalities. All characters played by the Editors in the in-office campaign. Though they add the disclaimer that they used dice to create their ability scores, not the point buy-in method.
As Mongo pointed out, all the of Adventure Paths have NPCs.
Tell us a little more of what you're going for, and maybe we can offer better suggestions. _________________ Jim Groves

| Thanks. I think the reader comments on those two links might be surprisingly helpful. I suddenly feel the need to laugh ominously. . . |

Yep, I think the Rival Guide would be a good call if you're looking for NPC statblocks because it has a good range of different CRs, classes and races.
Plus, I did a chapter. |

That's a selling point right there! Anything that Mr Daigle puts his hand to is liable to be eminantly playable.
Dammit, might need to put this on a wish list. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

I'm not sure exactly what you are looking for but each of the Advanced Feats pdf's include 3 character builds for the class they pdf addresses. (Alchemist, Cavalier, Inquisitor, Oracle, Summoner, and Witch)
These detail all the feats, ability scores, class feature picks, spells etc... from level 1 to 20. They also have some very short flavor descriptions. If you want the mechanical side of the NPC, they are pretty good since you can peg it at whatever level you like and have the complete character. |

It really depends on what sort of NPC you want and what CR range. I steal NPC stat blocks from the Pathfinder APs all the time.
The two books mentioned above are excellent. I haven't gotten a lot of use out of the first one since my group was 10+ level when it came out. The second one will be a fantastic resource now that my group is level 16. The writing team seems to mostly be Open Design veterans and RPG Superstar winners/finalists, so each group is interesting and unique. _________________ -Jesse Butler

Well I'm actually looking at a couple of key npcs who would likely be in a fight. Sort of legendary individuals that the PCs would hear of before encountering. Those people I know I want full blocks for.
Then I've got some no name npcs, whom I'm not sure I sure bother writing out. Kind of like "Assassin of the Red Guard".
EDIT: I meant to add I've had two very good recommendations for the Game Mastery Guide to look at NPC stat blocks. Just to add to the convo. |

I had assumed you'd looked at the GMG NPCs since they are on the PRD. There are certainly some useful statblocks in there, but they are fairly generic. Not nearly as flavorful as the NPC Guide or the Rival Guide. It really depends on what level you are looking to make the NPCs. NPC Guide is good for level 1-10 NPCs, Rival Guide is better for level 10-20 NPCs. There is some cross over, but that's my finding.
But legendary champions are relative to the demographics of your area. If your PCs are level 3 and the baddest hero in the land is level 7, that's different than if your PCs are level 10 and the champions of the realm are level 18. _________________ -Jesse Butler

In all honesty, I didn't even think to look at the PRD. Looking at it now. Might be helpful. I'm primarily interested in the way the stat block is presented, as well as what information in often paired with the stat block, so thing's are a little different when looking at the PRD than a book.
Enough people have spoken up here that I think I'll also take a look at the Rivals Guide. |
