First, I'm not a KQ subscriber, but I've been a patron for three Open Gaming projects and I'm about to likely sign up for Zobek (see below).
I read the intro, and the edit regarding edition concerns me...
I have voted for the poll, and for me it matters dramatically if it is 3rd ed or 4th edition. I won't buy 4th and wouldn't want to influence the vote. So if it is anything but 3.5 or Pathfinder, please subtract one vote from Angels.
If third edition/pathfinder, my choices are (along with some thoughts), in order:
1. Angels of our better nature. WOW. Just WOW. Hands down, my choice.
2. Court of the Shadow Fey.
3. and 4. Tough choice here...
If Lords of Lost Arbonesse dovetailed with Nick Logue's Razor Coast, that would give it a leg up. If Slaves of the Red Goddess was "world neutral"...so that I don't have to read how WotC ripped the realms a new one...or so I could set it in my own world, that would give it a leg up.
Floating: Tales of Greater Zobek....See below*. Plus, I see this as limiting to those who don't get regular Zobek...and again, I haven't decided on that...So likely it will be fourth place regardless of the answers the more I think about it.
Last: Kobold Bestiary: There are sooo many monsters. Even fresh takes on monsters aren't as much fun (particularly as a group effort) as stories in my opinon. This choice will continue to fall last given almost any adventure choices offered up against it.
*Finally, one question...how "accessible" is the Zobek material for non KQ subscribers? If all inclusive (though there are "extras" in KQ) then I'm in on that one. I love steampunk and would want to adapt it to Iron Kingdoms (or IK to it). If not, I probably won't spring the $30 plus the printing costs. And, also, the answers to that dramatically influence my choice for "greater tales of Zobek" obviously. |

Well it looks like Slaves of the Red Queen bombed
But happily my number two choice is romping it in.
C'mon sunken cities |

The City in the Sea - Edgar Allan Poe
Lo! Death has reared himself a throne
In a strange city lying alone
Far down within the dim West,
Where the good and the bad and the worst and the best
Have gone to their eternal rest.
There shrines and palaces and towers
(Time-eaten towers that tremble not!)
Resemble nothing that is ours.
Around, by lifting winds forgot,
Resignedly beneath the sky
The melancholy waters lie.
No rays from the holy heaven come down
On the long night-time of that town;
But light from out the lurid sea
Streams up the turrets silently
Gleams up the pinnacles far and free
Up domes up spires up kingly halls
Up fanes up Babylon-like walls
Up shadowy long-forgotten bowers
Of sculptured ivy and stone flowers
Up many and many a marvelous shrine
Whose wreathèd friezes intertwine
The viol, the violet, and the vine.
Resignedly beneath the sky
The melancholy waters lie.
So blend the turrets and shadows there
That all seem pendulous in air,
While from a proud tower in the town
Death looks gigantically down.
There open fanes and gaping graves
Yawn level with the luminous waves;
But not the riches there that lie
In each idol's diamond eye
Not the gaily-jeweled dead
Tempt the waters from their bed;
For no ripples curl, alas!
Among that wilderness of glass
No swellings tell that winds may be
Upon some far-off happier sea
No heavings hint that winds have been
On seas less hideously serene.
But lo, a stir is in the air!
The wave there is a movement there!
As if the towers had thrust aside,
In slightly sinking, the dull tide
As if their tops had feebly given
A void within the filmy Heaven.
The waves have now a redder glow
The hours are breathing faint and low
And when, amid no earthly moans,
Down, down that town shall settle hence,
Hell, rising from a thousand thrones,
Shall do it reverence. |

This thread is the first time I've seen Sean K. Reynold's name attached to the "Angels of Our Better Nature" project.
I think he is an EXCELLENT choice for a guest author, but it might be tough to talk him into it, what with the new job he has at Paizo and all. |
Sean K. Reynolds had pitched a similar project back in his blog in March.

Sunk Lyonesse - Walter de la Mare
"In sea-cold Lyonesse,
When the Sabbath eve shafts down
On the roofs, walls, belfries
Of the foundered town,
The Nereids pluck their lyres
Where the green translucency beats,
And with motionless eyes at gaze
Make ministrely in the streets.
And the ocean water stirs
In salt-worn casement and porch.
Plies the blunt-nosed fish
With fire in his skull for torch.
And the ringing wires resound;
And the unearthly lovely weep,
In lament of the music they make
In the sullen courts of sleep:
Whose marble flowers bloom for aye:
And - lapped by the moon-guiled tide -
Mock their carver with heart of stone,
Caged in his stone-ribbed side."
This is the kind of feel I'd like to see evoked in an undersea adventure. |

Rather than copy/paste the entirety of the "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" here, just know that I wanted to.
http://etext.virginia.edu/stc/Coleridge/poems/Rime_Ancient_Mariner.html
"Water, water, every where,
And all the boards did shrink ;
Water, water, every where,
Nor any drop to drink.
The very deep did rot : O Christ !
That ever this should be !
Yea, slimy things did crawl with legs
Upon the slimy sea.
About, about, in reel and rout
The death-fires danced at night ;
The water, like a witch's oils,
Burnt green, and blue and white." |

Accessible how? The Zobeck material comes from the Open Design adventures like Tales of Zobeck (shipping to patrons in a few weeks). The Gazetteer part will also be available to the public, but the adventures are a limited edition.
In terms of style, it's meant to be a city anyone can drop into their campaign, like Freeport. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

I'm all for the Angels adventure.
I'm new to open design, but my DM pointed me here (and dm'd me on some open design adventures...which were AWESOME).
I'm all for anything that is really different from what is already out there.
I think Wolfgang does a great job with Cthulhu type adventures...but I also think that Crucible of Chaos was already a kind of "Pulp" and "Cthulhu" adventure.
I'd definitely like to see something new...
I'd also be interested in Slaves of the Red Goddess and Court of the Shadow Fey.
Finally, I'd agree with Watcher that the numbers might be artificially high for Lost Lords...and dependent upon the Pathfinder connection. When a final vote is cast, it would be good to know definitively whether that was a go or not, as it would likely influence a lot of people's opinions.
ALSO: At least in my group, if there were two projects running from different authors concurrently, I'd likely buy one and my usual DM the other, so there's interest in having more than one project going here. (Although he said he voted for Angels too...I guess if that is one of them we'll have to "rock paper scissors" for it). |

Wolfgang, thanks for the reply.
I guess I was wondering because it seemed like the city was set in the world of KQ from some of the early discussions.
I went ahead and paid for patronage anyway... (I can't stay away!)
That said, it sounds like I'll be just fine in terms of having a full understanding...and maybe this will be the final incentive to getting a KQ subscription.
As far as my prior post goes, I think those interested in Lost Lords of Arbonese should check out Nick Logue's Razor Coast:
http://www.sinisteradventures.com/index.php/dark-vistas
Again, that might dovetail nicely with the adventure (or be redundant)...not sure. It could function as the "above the waves" component while the undersea components were in Arbonese...or maybe it meets the seafaring needs of potential patrons who might prefer another setting (Angels, anyone???) |

I wandered in here, after finding a link over at EN World. I tend to gravitate towards aquatic topics; I go where the fish are.
My own interest in said topic is purely selfish in nature. My current chat-based game is set beneath the surface of the sea, as was my prior play-by-post campaign. Hags, Undersea Subjects, 3e/3.5e, and the World of Greyhawk... that's me in a nutshell. Errr... that would make me a nut... Well, I suppose that fits. |

I've wanted to see more treatment of the aquatic adventure myself. I skipped over 2nd Edition and most of 3.5 until last September. In the old days there were aquatic monsters and treasures, but not a lot of support for an aquatic campaign or even an extended module.
About 6 to 7 months I was pestering James Jacobs a lot for Pathfinder to do one.. and being the good PR guy he is, he said he'd like to see one too. HOWEVER, those sort of adventures aren't mainstream sellers, he pointed out. And that would have to be taken into consideration (So don't hold your breath for one any time soon he advised)..
So, even though I like Angels and the Shadow Fae ideas a lot, I voted for Lords.. I'd love to see Wolfgang try his hand at it.
But I'd probably vote with my money differently if Paizo declines to extend Wolfgang a special license. I won't be mad, but I'd put my money on Angels or the Shadow Court. |

I tried to do a little more for aquatic adventuring for Sinister Adventures, with the Indulgence called Death Beneath the Waves.
But there's a lot more that could be done with it. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

| There was an excellent product by Mystic Eye Games called "The Deep", a few years back. I was an uncredited consultant. The final product shipped with some editing issues, but it was still one of the best undersea resources of its time. |

Well, it's run all week and I think I'm ready to say that the two candidates are Angels of Our Better Nature and Lost Lords of Arbonesse/Azlant.
Tales of Greater Zobeck gets a shot by default, and based on the enthusiasm of its patrons, I think it has a good chance as well.
I'll post much more detail on these in a week or two, and open the projects up for commission.
And the Kobold Bestiary.... I have plans for the Bestiary. But not until January. _________________ Wolfgang Baur
