I started a Barsella/Second Darkness AP adventure with my brother, and the guys I have been gaming with since middle school, while I was back East on vacation. The session went well and fast, and we are discussing continuing it by post or via G+ Hangout....here is a summary of the first part of the first session:

Session One, Part A.
Kyrim ("beast-touched" ranger), "Smash" Thongo (elf-touched fighter) and Bastibal (gnome sorcerer) are "button men" for the Uundergoss family in Barsella. Kyrim is known as an excellent tracker and bounty hunter; Smash is a feared enforcer, both for his strength and speed, but also for his fey heritage. Bastibal is a nasty little bugger known for his daze spells followed by a quick knee-capping with his favorite club, "Betsi".

They are bored with their recent assignment guarding Uundergoss-owned fish warehouses at the wharves, so Bastibal suggests they blow of some steam by going to the Golden Goblin gaming hall and entering the gambling tournament that the owner, Saul Vandercaskin, is sponsoring. With his high Charisma and Dexterity (not to mention his prestidigitation and some "underhanded" help from his buddies), Bastibal was well on his way to winning the tournament and an alleged 10,000 gp jackpot, when the torches in the hall exploded in a blinding burst of pyrotechnics.

Most everyone in the hall was blinded for several rounds, including Smash, but the rest of the party made their saves and saw a female leather-clad bard and black-robed wizard making their way towards the chest containing the jackpot, while four thugs worked their way through the blind, panicked crowd to take out any remaining unblinded patrons (such as the party).

Kyrim tried to leap across the gaming tables to intercept the wizard and bard, but had an epic fail and ended up falling between tables and on top of the currently-blinded Smash. Two of the thugs, armed with clubs, came up to beat down Kyrim and Smash, but the all-too-easily forgotten gnome came out from under a nearby table and knee-capped one of the thugs.

With Bastibal's help, Kyrim and Smash were able to dispatch the other thug and accost the wizard and bard just as they were using shrink item to shrink the large prize chest and make away with it. The party quickly took down the pair of thieves, and the other two thugs escaped with the rest of the fleeing crowd.

The owner of the casino, Saul Vandercaskin, comes out the back of the hall with his bodyguard and offers them all a job as enforcers on the spot, after politely asking Bastibal to return the shrunken treasure chest he just stuck in his pocket....
