Ok, it's not pretty, so I'm just asking folks to vote in the poll and give me a read on 3E vs 4E preferences for the next project.
Note that there's NO WAY I'm writing two projects simultaneously again. Either a guest author is handling one Open Design, or there will be only one.
So what's your preference? _________________ Wolfgang Baur

I'm very glad you posted this, WB.
I've been pacing the floor and looking at the other poll on the topic of the next Project...
And with no disrespect whatsoever, I think you threw folks too many variables with the other poll, and I think it skewed things a bit.
In hindsight, I would have introduced the topics and left edition completely out of it. I would have said (and I know people would have asked), "We'll discuss edition after we decide the topic or theme of the next project, with the exception of a Zobeck Project, which must be 3.5. Consider that any of these topics, with one exception, could be in either edition or even another game system." Then of course, you have to stick to not indulging discussion of edition too much.
Because what I see is people voting based upon edition and not theme/proposal.
You see what I mean? I'm not trying to be a jerk, but you have two sets of variables to compare against:
EXAMPLE:
QUESTION: Which do you like better? Angels, or the Shadow Court?
ANSWER: 3.5
Lol... See what I mean?
Not that matters. You can't go backwards.
In fact, one of my favorite movie quotes, paraphrased. "Oh, you can't go back that way. You have to go forwards to go backwards.. better press on." |

Yeah, they are separate topics, but I agree that for some people, edition trumps subject. And for some, it's the other way around.
It makes the next round of commissioning much more complex. I guess I could just ask people to commission:
Generic 4E Project
Generic 3.5E Project
And see what happens. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

That would make a very compelling point.
But one aspect of your business is 'sales'.. Customer is always right and so forth. Maybe we should just chuckle about the idea of doing that and, uh-give it a miss. |

You tempt me... You seriously tempt me. Wouldn't it be awesome to put up a commission and just say "I"m going to write the best damn adventure I can. Trust me on this."
Ok, maybe that's only awesome from my perspective.
If you are renewing for KQ, please do so pronto, because we're shipping it very soon, and I may have underprinted. Again. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

YIKES! As soon as I get home..
As for the suggestion..
Isn't that the basic premise of every game? The GM says, "You play this game, and I promise it will be as fun as I can possibly make it."
But alas, your Patrons are not players, they are GMs, so that is where the analogy falls down. |

| I voted 4E as it's the only D&D version I'm playing these days. |

So four different system each have 2 votes? ARRRRGggggh!
This makes publishers tear their hair out and go bald, you know. I am sending my bills from Hair Club for Men to each and every one of you. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

I voted Modern/cthulhu (man, I never remember how to spell that!!!)
However, for a D&D adventure, I'd vote Pathfinder/3.5 (I lump those together because I can EASILY use a 3.5 adventure in my Pathfinder rules game)
Not to be a h4ter (I *LOVE* that!!! Thanks to whom ever came up with that!); but I don't play 4e and so wouldnt support such a project. While my desire to play 3.5 over 4e is my own choice for my own reasons, I'll not support a 4e project not because of some sort of hate, but because I have found myself short of funds lately, and *IF* I can scrape together the cash for the months of entertainment that is OD, it would be silly to support a system that I don't run. |

I voted 3.5 as I only play OGL.
I think the best damn adventure would sell but as to it being usable has to do with the edition, as a 4e adventure would require me to make a fan adaptation (not hard but half the point of a published adventure is less work for me).
As to the question, I don't think you would pick a bad author, and you always find great authors to join in from Jeff Grub to Ed Greenwood. The feedback for Blood of Gorgon has been very positive so I say guest author and multiple projects. _________________ Steve "Quillion" Russell

3.5/ogl for me. going the pathfinder route, frankly, so 4e stuff would be too much of a chore (if i'm going to convert, may as well write my own...)
either way, keep up the good work |
