Hey Everyone, I usually lurk - but finally decided to post.

I'm Rick Hershey, might know me from my art in Kobold Quarterly/Open Design or from Creaturedaily.com that Fat Goblin Games is doing with Wolfgang.

Anyways, FGG just launched a kickstarter for my setting Steampunk Musha. Unlike traditional fantasy settings, Steampunk Musha draws on East Asian mythology and history and combines aspects of several cultural traditions along with Victorian-era technology. The traditional Oriental setting is thrown into a roaring industrial age, where incredible new inventions contrast with ancient mysteries and restless spirits.

Being designed for the Pathfinder system, this is going to be an awesome project. . . but check out the kickstarter page and make your own decision. We'd love to have you as part of it.

Short answer, a lot. Steampunk Musha has some western genre influence, but it's nothing near being a western in the sense Far West is. . . SM also has tons of monsters, magic, etc. - a lot more fantasy then FW. And FW focuses on a mythical version of China & the American West -where SM is pure Asian inspired fantasy.

Oh, Far West has it's own original system, Steampunk Musha is Pathfinder compatible. Hope that helps.

After seeing the art for the races and the clockwork children on your updates page, I'm definitely interested in backing this project. At first I thought: "aha, steampunk AGAIN", but the 8 year production saga and beautiful illustrations are compelling reasons to support! Looks beautiful, the setting looks to be an interesting melange of east/west, real world/fantasy and magic/steampunk.
Nice work!

Thanks! Those are very appreciative comments. We actually just had a backer toss up a huge pledge that made us reach our goal! So now we get to aim at unlocking those Milestone rewards, I think it's a good time to jump on board, especially all the extras we'll be doing.

Congratulations on reaching your funding!

Looking hard at my finances to try at least for Rosuto-shimian Noble....

Now if you get to $5k and unlock those extra 4 classes....well have to try for Ronin then!

It's going to be Ronin for me as well. Although Jade and Celestial Hero are sooo tempting! Open Design has gotten me addicted to leaving my mark on the games I play.

I'm sure you guys don't need any help, but these two ideas popped into my head and just won't die. Artistic Archetypes for Calligraphy Master.

Origami Master: An artist of papercraft (watch the anime Read or Die OVA or check out the 4' Papercraft Gundam for inspiriation), who can create piercing or slashing weapons in seconds (katana, shuriken), animal-like constructs to send messages and act as guardians (think of the paper birds that attack the little girl in the anime Spirited Away) or even mounts, even mundane items like rope or even clothing that's fully functional in his hands. Imagine a bare chested martial artist holding an origami sword, resting on his back and shoulders like half-cape are paper wings, and sending his paper dragon to flight with one hand. An archetype that focuses on speed and dexterity for protection, in body and mind, so a bonus towards mind effecting too. Paper lanterns, warding papers, and kites might be related to their abilities, and of course, 1,000 origami cranes gets you a wish.

Powder Master: An artist of fireworks. Using sparklers or even torches as his calligraphy brush. Wielding mortars, smoke bombs, screamers, snakes, roman (Dragon?) candles, and fountains to blind, deafen, confuse, terrify, and most of all, Burn, his enemies.

You are pretty spot on, Origami Master is an archetype we are using. And we have something sort of like the Powder Master, but an archetype for a different class.
