Hi all, I'm currently working on creating a Midgard Fanzine similar in approach to Paizo Fans United's Wayfinder, releasing twice a year. Wolfgang has graciously offered to put together a Community Use License for us to use....

Basically the fanzine will be in a digital/PDF format and would be a forum and vehicle for fans of Midgard to contribute everything from stories/fiction, recipes, flavor articles, theorycrafting, crunch articles, adventures/sidetreks and songs to gameplay photos/quest journals, character memoriams etc etc etc.

I have a bunch of names ready to go, but I thought it might be nice to open up the floor to the patrons and forum-board members....

So here's a poll!

Please don't send me any article queries just yet - I'll make another announcement next week...

I like the Midguardian, but in keeping with the naming used for the campaign setting I'd change it to Midgardian.

Let me weigh in with Midgard Scales! Lol!

None of those names are really catching my attention. I'll ponder on it.

Number appearing is cute, but I went with Masks (but I would have voted for several ... ).

Thanks for the comments guys! There actually was a field "None of these interest me - I'll post one of my own" but it didn't seem to make it into my post/poll!!!

I'm definitely wanting any input - if you have a name you like post it!!!

@ kronovan: That was intentionally spelt "Midguardian as a tongue-in-cheek nod to the Guardian newspaper, and as we are guardians of Midgard, but sure, we could spell it "properly"!

Oh yeah, I got the reference to The Guardian -once upon a time The Manchester Guardian. I've been a fan and reader of that newspaper for much of my life despite being a resident of North America. My reason for liking the other spelling is because it's closer to the Old Norse name of Mišgaršr, and I'm a big fan of of the Norse mythologies.

Ooh, I love the idea of a Midgard fanzine! As for a name, how about something simple and all-inclusive, like The Seven Secrets or Chronicles of Veles? I'll probably have more ideas later, but my brain just isn't firing on all cylinders right now. Smile

Interesting!

I like something like what ahamon's suggesting-- Chronicles or Scales of Veles.

Or simply, "Yggdrasil," as the fanzine would connect all aspects of Midgard to other bits.

It's nice and straightforward, and evokes a lot of easily recognized imagery.

Yep, I like Yggdrasil - that was a name of a band I was co-opted to sing for that never played a gig, or go past the first rehearsal. I'm sure there must be a nordic metal-group of the same name... Or a magazine. I'll check...

Since this is a fanzine, I don't know how important branding and name recognition is for you (or reflexively for Midgard), but personally I would steer clear of something too weird or obscure. Sure, many of us are clever and well-versed with world folklore, but not everyone shares those interests. There are people who play and enjoy Midgard who don't even get some of the connections throughout the setting. I'm not saying to dumb things down, but the stronger the connection to Kobold Press's products and campaign setting the better.

I like the Midgardian a bit because it instantly makes me think of this. specific. campaign setting. But, it's kinda cutesy too.

I wish I had something good to add, but I squeezed out all my creative juices at work today. If I come up with any ideas, I'll jot 'em down.

Kuddos on this endeavor. I'm really excited to see what comes of this!

Point taken Adam, and thanks for your enthusiasm! Check out this thread over at Paizo for some more discussion on Yggdrasil and obscurities...

Yep, I saw the thread, but I wanted to post here instead of there to make the distinction between "Daigle fan of Midgard" and "Daigle employee of Paizo". Smile

"Scales of the World Serpent" is the best. It's enigmatic and cool but not too obscure.

Cool idea! Let me know how I can help!

I think Scales of the World Serpent could also serve as a permanent column/page.

Don't worry James, I'll be leaning on you!!!
