| Holidays have put a beating on the wallet, but I have a windfall coming up within a week, and I will be going Senior on this one. I am fairly excited and hopeful. |

Open Design makes use of Live Journal, correct? Before I purchase, I want to make sure I can access the material from my employer's network. They block a whole lotta sites - for example, MySpace and Facebook are both blocked for being in the category "dating and personals." WotC and Green Ronin are blocked for being in the category "games." Several pages on snopes.com are blocked for being in the "risque" category.
I can access Live Journal, though. So hopefully I'm remembering correctly that that's the tool used. _________________ John Ling

Yes, the private discussion for Halls will be on LJ. So if that's not blocked, you're in the clear. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

I'm trying to keep up with the invites, but I've fallen a bit behind.
Basically, you need to tell me your LJ account name, and I'll set it up. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

| All signed up with an expert patronage and hopefully I gave the 3E option a bump. |

Quite a few people are giving the 3E option a bump today. Maybe it's the lack of a post about the project on ENWorld but at the moment 3E is pulling ahead by a nose again.
And of course the name is Zherog! You now have access, sir. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

Wolfgang, I understand your reasoning behind allowing patrons to vote on the edition with their dollars, and I think it's probably the best option you could have gone with, but man there's going to be a lot of heartbroken people out there when the dust settles.
That being said, who's going to help us 4E goons out by posting something in the appropriate EnWorld forum? I would, but that place intimidates me. |

I'm in, and WOW! It's like a veil has been lifted from eyes... Great stuff to read and dig through -- including comments about some of my Monday Monster articles.

I would, but:
A) My employer blocks the site
B) I want this to be 3.5 _________________ John Ling

I'd like to reference an idea posted by kunger00:
| Quote: |
Is there a possibility of writing either an edition neutral project with a separate file (web enhancements maybe?) of the crunch? Or maybe a project that isn't edition neutral but has the other edition as a separate file?...
That being said, I would likely support a Zobeck project, even if it was 4E if one of the more talented Patrons I've seen post on OD committed to do a fan based conversion to 3.5 or Pathfinder.
|
Just wanted to bring up this idea on this thread as it seems like this is where we're actually discussing the edition issues.
I really don't know what kind of logistical design problems this would create, but it seems like a pretty good possibility for reconciling the 3E/4E factions. Either an edition-neutral adventure, with additional stat documents, or a conversion done up by an editor or contributor (maybe with the same patron oversight and input from the designers as the OD project?).
Just a thought I didn't want to see die without being discussed. |

The biggest issue I see (legal ramifications aside) is that mechanics and encounter design for 4E and 3E seem to be different in a few ways.
It wouldn't just be about porting every 3E NPC into his 4E analog, you'd essentially have to redesign every encounter almost from scratch. Otherwise you'd have one GOOD product and one PASSABLE product (at best).
Correct me if I'm wrong, anyone. This is the impression I'm getting from discussions Ive read around this forum and in the Open Design LJ comments. |
