I think when the edition is decided (or mostly decided), a poll would help you gauge how many 4E patrons will stick around and at what levels, to see if fostering a conversion is worth your while. But I'm sure you've already thought of this. Don't know why I'm mentioning it, actually.
One of the things that made me believe the conversion idea might work was the realization that if you went along with it, you'd make your commission goal on 3E patrons alone, and then be able to retain some decent portion of the 4E patrons on top of that (and their money too!). If it was a tight race at the halfway mark, that could mean you'd have as much as 1.5x your original commission goal to work with, which benefits the project tremendously. |

They are? I'm a patron at the $75 level (not sure what it is called in the new rankings) and I'm not seeing such a topic on LJ. Is it buried in another thread and I missed it?
Could you post a link? Or at least say which thread they are in?

Wolfgang, I know you don't have too difficult of a time getting projects funded, but have you considered a small sample PDF of past material which prospective patrons could download?
I buy a lot of PDFs. And I really appreciate when a publisher has a preview so I know what the quality is. You could include a sample image of a poll or some discussion thread, and the FAQ. It would be a pretty great marketing tool.
Sure, any sensible person would just say "Wolfgang Baur? I'm in!" but I suppose there are some people out that might not appreciate your contributions...
Anyway, just a thought. |

I also had no problem with the link - though it was much less of a preview and more of a "here's what's in this product" sort of page. _________________ John Ling

Likewise interested. Is this for the daily KQ postings, or is it for the Open Design Project? |

The link to the article worked just fine - it's the embedded link to the PDF containing Captain Asad Al Nar that returns a 404 for me.
Can you guys open the PDF? |

Whoops - I didn't even notice the embedded link, hence my previous comment.
Clicking on it now, I do get a 404 error for that. _________________ John Ling

Glad I'm not crazy! Ok, I think I remember the PDF and what I was thinking about above was actually more of a preview of the Open Design process and not necessarily just the product.
Some people might think that even $25 is a lot for nothing more than an adventure. My point is that Open Design is also about what I called the "other D&D": Design and Development. A good OD preview would somehow show off those aspects too. |

They are currently a crack squad off on their own; I want them to do their thing in splendid isolation for a little bit. Senior patrons will get access to that material soon. Give them time to build up something in their secret lab...
The senior patrons do have some pitches to think on. More to come. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

Out of curiosity as a current patron how do I get my hands on one of the previous ones?
Also although I can't buy further back than permitted can someone list the previous projects and a summary for me? Curiousity regards what has gone before is killing me. |

Steam and Brass - the first and rarest. Usually the source of controversy. I've never seen it, but I believe the plot dealt with golem bodies that could be possessed by Wizards.
Castle Shadowcrag - the second.. It won an Ennie, and had a clever time travel element in it where the party was fixing the past to avoid a grim future. The Shadow Fae made their big debut here.
Empire of the Ghouls - the third, and kinda epic in scope. Its quite long as the Boss blew wordcount and then some. It told the story of an underground undead civilization, along with aboleths, cloakers, and an artifact of the Goddess of Night and Magic
Six Arabian Nights - the fourth project but first anthology, and set outside of Zobeck, but still in the same 'world'. Multiple adventures for multiple levels, and it also had some gazetteer material for the Arabian Genere.
Blood of the Gorgon - the fifth project but first guest writer.. a horror story written by Nick Logue in keeping with Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (but much worse)
Tales of Zobeck - the sixth Project, half gazetteer and half adventure anthology.. the first project to look at Zobeck in comprehensive depth.
Wrath of the River King - the seventh project but it was basically released at the same time as Tales.. It is the only 4E Project. Where as all the others have some connection to Zobeck, this one does not. Nor will any 4E Project (unless there is some change someday, but I don't look for it)
Which brings us to the present... |
