I'm happy to report that the patrons have put forward 15 proposals for the adventure in Round 1 of the pitch process.

And there's some real gold in the proposals to date.

Hi, I'm new to KQ and Open Design.

Little questions:
1.) Has it been decided if Halls of the Mountain King will be 3rd or 4th edition D&D?

2.) Is it to late to purchase for $29.95? This is for the current project and does not include a KQ print subscription, correct?

Thanks!

Halls will be a 3.5 project, but some of the patrons plan on converting it to 4e if there is enough interest.

Halls is still available for purchase as a patron and is independent from KQ subscriptions.

Hope this helps.

Yes, thank you.

A "patron" is an Open Project subscriber?

Well, "subscriber" is not quite right. Patrons are members of a particular project. Once that project is complete, it's done. Usually the membership is around 6 months or so.

And Daigle is off as well. Halls of the Mountain King is BOTH a 3E and a 4E project. There was enough interest to justify a 4E version as well, with a redesigned set of encounters and a separate gazetteer element.

I'm a patron (expert level if that matters) of Halls.

I'm curious if patronage extends across both editions of the project, or if I would need to become a patron of the 4e version in addition to being a patron of the 3e edition.

I'd like to end up owning both versions of the product.

Patronage extends to one edition.

There's a fair bit of work required in re-designing the adventure for 4E, plus the 4E Gazetteer is quite a bit different from the 3E version (no spells, more dwarven PC paragon stuff, different items, etc).

However, both Gazeteers will be available to the public (so you could just pick up the other edition's Gazetteer if you like), and I will offer a "dual track" patron option for a minimal cost for those patrons who want both. I will post about that... in April or by May 1, when the 4E mechanical design work starts.

Or heck, maybe I'll just offer to patrons now rather than later.

I'm in for a dual track option!

That cover is _awesome_! I love the shafts of light coming down onto the dragon. And the big axe - a dwarven adventure's gotta have a big honkin' axe.

That's intriguing. Do you mean in terms of the final product, or the development cycle?

I mean the final product, since the adventure and gazeteer are both distinct for the separate editions. The 3E/OGL folks who want the 4E materials will be able to pick them up for a smallish fee, and vice versa.

For development, the 4E crowd has been welcome to the discussion of plot, monster selection, maps, adventure goals, finale, staging, and tactics.

The 3E crowd will likewise be welcome to discuss the 4E conversion efforts; since we'll remake the encounters using the setting and plot they already know, it might be a fun way to compare the systems.

Is it too late to join the Halls of the Mountain King Project(s)?

You're in luck, Halls is still available to join, and the 3E/OGL version has recently left playtest and moved into editing. So there's still a little time to sign up.

And for 4E, we're just getting started on monster conversion and re-imagining the encounters.
