Yes, I'm down with the David/Goliath story, but as a race, they're purely a WotC creation. Sure they could use a completely manufactured name, but then they would lose the creature recognition from Races of Stone.
*shrug* Regardless, I agree with the assessment of the race. I think a half-ogre's got more style...or even ogres, for that matter.
