I appear to respond fast where there is a new posting on LiveJournal, but there are a few tricks that help when knowing when something new has been posted.
I said elsewhere, you get the most value when you participate- but sometimes it's not convenient to just sit around and hit the Refresh button on the browser all day long.
If you're not all that familiar with LiveJournal, here's how you get e-mail notifications when Open Design posts a new entry.. or even find out when your specific Project gets a new entry. You can also get Instant Message Alerts!
First, go to Open Design's Front LiveJournal Page. Look to the top. Go To USER INFO, and click there
On the next page, towards the right.. look for the Track Button and click there..
That will open up a menu where you can set up notification to your e-mail address, or Instant Message.. You can specify all Open Design entries (that you're authorized to see), or you can even specify which of the tags that Wolfgang uses to be the base of your notification. Like this...
I hope this helps the new folks! |

| Wouldn't it be easier to just get the rss-feed? |

And this seems difficult?
I mean sure, you could do RSS. I never have.
It's an option, Irian. Shared for the benefit of those interested. It's not mandatory. |

Oh, I appreciate the info. I just expected that you would get more notice options (like maybe even a new comment), that's why I posted. Sorry for being rude. |

No no.. I was sharp, I realize.
How do you set up an RSS feed?
I just tried to Google it, and it talks about an RSS software reader.
Teach me. Maybe I'm not the only person who's never learned. That way we can do some good here. People can pick their preference.
EDIT: I figured out how to do it with Google Reader (it was pretty easy).
My only comment would be that it's not showing "Patron Only posts". Unless I'm overlooking how that is configured? The notifications done through LJ will send you notices for the Patron Only Posts that you're authorized to see. |

Oh, in my browser (Opera) I just have to log in and on the Open Design Livejournal page, and then click on a little orange icon in the right corner of the address bar. I get a message if I want to subscribe to the feed and that's it. I just realized it's not that easy in other browsers.
Edit: I don't know HOW it knows which posts I am allowed to read, but somehow I get all the patron only notices for my level. Magic I think. |

Thank you for posting this Watcher.
The Live Journal set up has, in the past, been difficult for me. I look forward to using these tips to hopefully make this an easier process.
I don't suppose you have any tips for keeping from having to read backwards for replies in previous posts or having to remember what you have read and what you haven't while scrolling through the extra long posts?
Another concern of mine when using the notifications, is getting tons of emails whenever replies happen. I guess I could set up a new email just for this purpose, like I did for Facebook and stuff like that. |

If you have iGoogle its very easy to add an RSS feed.
I use Mozilla Firefox. On the LiveJournal Open Design home page, the orange symbol appears in my URL box. I click that, it asks if I want to subscribe via Atom or RSS. It then asks me if I want to add it to my iGoogle HomePage or iGoogle Reader (a iGoogle widget for your iGoogle homepage).
Shazaam. Its there. _________________ "His Grinch avatar and a cynical post style may lead one to believe he is a dark, depressive, heroin-addicted serial killer..." |

Well let me know, you guys, if you find you're able to view your patron only posts. That would be the deal breaker for me.
Because I've figured out this Google Reader (again, actually easy as pie), but it's only show me the posts that the general public can see. It's not showing me any of the exclusive posts that are only visible to Patrons. |

No worries... part of the issue stems from the fact that I am rarely known by my given name, on gaming boards. Granted, there was that Phoenix Lore #1 interview.. |
