| As for why cannot someone find massive amoounts of a particular type of prepainted minis, Noble Knight Games has some multiple copies of various minis and at reasonable prices. No, I don't work for them. I am just a very pleased customer. |

Cool and thanks! I've been getting away from the battlemat entirely, lately; so, I stopped buying minis -- but (here's the weird kicker) I'm still drawn to them.
Maybe its because I've just always craved these massive terrain tables with hundreds of orc warriors and a hapless party that I could leave in a gaming space for months at a time.
Maybe its because I love to paint these things, but have no time lately, and owning the pre-painted ones scratch the itch a little.
I'm just not sure, but I'm sure I'll use this link.
Psst - don't tell my wife! |

I've been thinking lately about trying to collect some smaller (like half-size) minis, and using a 1/2 inch grid battlemat. That way I can fit a bigger battle on the same table.
Unfortunately, I don't have the time or inclination to paint minis, and I've never seen pre-paints of smaller minis. There's a game called Battle-Lore that has some good standard fantasy races, but they are unpainted.
But I use battlemats and minis a lot in my games. |

Shhhh! My wife might hear that, and then I'll have to spend even more of my money on minis, paints, brushes, and whatever other stuff she buys. _________________ John Ling

I use minis and a variety of battlemats, when I can convince my players to make room for said maps in between the numerous bags of snack food that they bring to the game. Sometimes it works better than others. I'm also fond of getting tablets of 1" grid paper from the office supply store and using that instead of battlemaps.

My wife made me a special birthday present last year. She got two flipmats and mounted them under plexiglass on pieces of wood. The screws that hold down the plexiglass also hold wooden pegs that fit perfectly into hobby store candelabras about 10" high, thus giving us an elevated battlemat.
We put the wood mounted flipmat on to the candelabaras, held fast by the wooden pegs. We can put books and notes and dice underneath the battlemat, thus giving us use of the entire gaming table and still allowing us to use our battlemats. No more dice knocking over miniatures either! |

Since I started RotRL I started using PosteRazor as well. A nice software, which makes posters out of almost any graphix file.
You can change the size easily and it doesn't take long to get the propper setting for minis.

Overhead projector, wet-erase Sharpie pens (in a variety of different colors, of course), and one pack of clear acetate sheets.
The map is projected up on the wall for all to see, so everyone can sit wherever they want around the room. No need to huddle around a single table. If I need to keep track of tactical positions, I just plop some dice onto the glass projector screen - this works particularly well with clear dice. |

| I wish they weren't so expensive and so frustratingly expensive when the bulbs break. |

I don't remember how much it cost - we've had it since about 1980. I do recall that we financed it by asking everyone to contribute a quarter every week. Keep in mind, twenty-five cents was worth more back then than it is now...
Yes, the bulbs are a bit pricey, but they also last nearly forever. Our current bulb has been going since the 20th century! |

| I just priced them on e-bay and they're not as expensive as I thought. |
