I’d like to take this time, and the space in this thread, to introduce you loyal Open Design fans to one of our new babies, soon to hatch.
http://www.koboldquarterly.com/kqstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3&products_id=125
The description puts it well, but rest assured there is way more than what’s listed there. Mike and I initially set out to do a bestiary-type book with just drakes, seeing as how Mike and I have crafted most of the existing drakes so far. Our Kobold-In-Chief, in his vast wisdom, asked us to re-pitch our idea incorporating material for players as well as GMs. So what you see here will appeal to gamers on both sides of the screen; providing critters for a GM to throw at a party of almost any level, and bolstering the arsenal of PCs with spells, feats, and even a prestige class or two.
Since we wanted to show you a pretty book as well as a useful one, we got Hugo Solis to do all of the interior illustrations, and I have to say, they are gorgeous.
I hope y’all enjoy this book when it drops very soon! |

| Looks cool, and the limited super special edition pics from Paizocon also look pretty nifty. Any chance that'll be an actual product, out of curiosity? |

Unlikely, as the price point would be north of $100, possibly $150 for the full hand-bound, laser-etched book.
But if a few people want them, I'm willing to arrange them. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

| Well, note me as interested. ^^ I imagine there are others. Because I just saw people in chat mention it. =P |

I now have to add, I think ink devils and pact drakes are natural enemies.
So far, so good. My GM now wants me to make a drake summoner. =P |

Hi Folks!
I picked up Book of Drakes and absolutely love it!
I do have a question though for the creators of the book on their intentions for Drake Form I/II/III/IV spells.
Specifically, the Drake Form II spell says it functions as the Drake Form I spell except that the caster can now "also assume the form of a medium lesser dragon."
If the spellcaster chooses to take the form of a small lesser dragon, does s/he get the bonuses listed in the Drake Form II spell or the Drake Form I spell?
This same question applies to Drake Form III . . .
Thanks!
Maredudd
P.S. Not sure if this is the right place to post this note but I'm fairly certain you guys will let me know if its not! _________________ Eric C Smith

Hey man, thanks for picking up the book!
I didn't write those spells, so this is probably a better question for Mike, but I would rule at my table that you only get the size restrictions and benefits from the level of the spell you use. That's to say, you can't use the better version to get a smaller size with better enhancements.
My thought is: each of the basic drakes have specific restrictions/guidelines, so each spell, which is already highly-focused, only applies to specifically what it lines out in the spell description.
That said, I defer to Mike on this. |

Thats what I was thinking but I wanted to see what the intent was. So, if Mike has anything to add I'd be very happy! _________________ Eric C Smith

| Here's another question: for Table 2-3, the Drake Tamer's Spells Known, what does the #/# format mean? |

A free additional drake by the prolific Mike Welham on the blog today, using the drake creation rules from Book of Drakes.
It's creepy. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

I haven't been checking in here like I should.
Thanks to everyone who has purchased the book! I hope you have been enjoying it. Now to answer questions:
Daigle's answer is correct. You *could* theoretically use a more powerful Drake Form spell to duplicate the effects of a lesser Drake Form spell, but you would get no other benefit.
The #/# format reflects the spells known/spells per day values. The spells per day are also listed on table 2-2. |

I saw it in 2-2, so I found that a bit confusing. Gotcha! ^^ |

Yeah, I can understand the confusion. Sorry about that! |
