Well, My thought process went a little like this: I felt that 666 was a bit cliche, but I wanted to riff off of that number, as if the number was somehow attached to some sort of universal supernatural truth, but not quite. The gnomeskull is an artifact, but it’s a little off kilter. Thus not 666, the great number of evil, but 667, evil’s neighbor across the the street.
