Obviously I'm a wee bit biased, Ghost, but in my opinion: no, it's far more involved than what is typically seen in an archetype. While I did in fact start on a ranger "chassis" (so to speak) I did a lot more than just swap Ranger Ability X for some other feature.

The painting is by NC Wyeth, from a book called The Black Arrow, and yes, completely awesome.

We're big fans of Wyeth around here. Well, Wolfgang and Callie for starters.

+2 on the dual perspectives. As an oldskool Grognard, the Elf class/race brings back fine memories! I also loved the original Dragon Magazine archer class.... I may be tempted yet for a subscription!

And might I say: That artwork ROCKS! Love the snow, the shading on the tree, the attitudes of the characters. 12 out of 10! Can we see a credit on the picture?

Very much like the old Elf class/race, though the article also contains suggestions for moving it beyond the elves if it fits the campaign.

Yeah, +1 on the dual perspectives. This would be a cool idea for a regular feature. I'm going to pick up this issue to check out this class. Seems like a cool idea, almost like the old Elf class/race.
