It is good that you made your Fortitude save, even more so because you were so young and had a penalty to the roll :-)

I kinda thought that was how it work. A similar thing happened to me as a kid, although with a rope hanging from a rafter in a barn. All I got was a TERRIBLE rope burn from it, but it scared the crap outta me.

I see it dropping from the ceiling and using the neck as a pivot point, The free feet of chain then sling around the neck (hopefully a couple of times). Then the weight (bag of sand) kicks in, tightening the chain and snapping the neck.

Ofcourse, Gavin might do it differently........

Personally, I love the save or die mechanic. It bugs me that it was done away with or at least severely nerfed in 3.x and later editions. That used to be one of the things I loved most about playing; the "not knowing" if the next door I opened would be my last.

Anyway, exactly how does the chain get wrapped around the victim's neck?

Yes, the chair was more of a challenge than I anticipated.

You could substitute the following for the save or die effect: If the target fails its Fortitude it is dealt 4d4 X 5 points of damage.

Yay, my items :)

Awesome trap, and not what I thought of myself. I especially like the use of the chair.

My only caveat is the save or die effect, a personal distaste for the mechanic. Perhaps save or start to suffocate instead? This is mainly from a point of view of using it against players rather than using it as a player against mooks/grunts.
