Midgard Atlas: A World of Deep Magic on Your iPad
The first app from Kobold Press hit the iTunes App Store this weekend. Midgard Atlas by WyvernX puts the world of Zobeck, the Empire of the Ghouls, and the dwarven Cantons at your fingertips!
Midgard Atlas is an animated, totally zoomable map of the entire heartland of Midgard, from the Western Ocean to the Mharoti Dragon Empire. The $3.99 app includes:
- Cartography by George R.R. Martin’s cartographer Jonathan Roberts
- Detailed maps of 9 major cities
- Removable text
- …And some cool surprises!
This high-resolution map unlocks all the wild places and fantasy civilizations of Midgard. Take a look at these screenshots after the cut.
Also, there’s still time to pre-order the Midgard Campaign Setting by WolfgangBaur, Jeff Grubb and Brandon Hodge in hardcover and softcover.

The eye-candy contained within will give you ophthalmic cavities. Beholder-like beings beware.

September 17, 2012 at 4:29pmEye-candy for beholders makes me smile. But yes, this is total eye-candy for map geeks.
It’s already got two reviews, both positive, on the App Store, and two more reviews elsewhere. The main complaint seems to be “OMG make it do more!”
The one that amused me was the “why isn’t everything from the hardcover in this app?”. Well, because then it would be a book, not an atlas.

September 17, 2012 at 4:29pmOh, and I totally need to set up a poll for what cities should be added to the city-zoom next.

September 17, 2012 at 11:36pmWishing I had a tablet too like all the cool kids…. App-arently it’s a thing of rare and useful beauty!
The zoomed out map with the cloud cover looks great, and one really gets a feel for just how big the Midgard world is, and how much is still left unexplored! Wishing I could peer into the Western Ocean and finally see just where those islands are….
Puh-leeze make a PDF of this!!!

September 18, 2012 at 7:19amAny chance of a regular PC version?
Kobold Quarterly
September 18, 2012 at 2:44pmUnfortunately, a regular PC would need a touch-screen to make this work. That will exist for Windows 8 PCs, but right now that function is pretty much tablet-only.
A Kindle or Android version will happen when and if an Android developer steps forward. I don’t have the skills to do it, but if you know someone.

September 19, 2012 at 1:00pmI love it. I must add myself to the list of folks saying, make it do more! I think the poll idea is a great idea and I would like to add a vote for other kinds of sites such as a dungeon or two in addition to cities.

September 23, 2012 at 1:16pmEven with the iPad app, I would still buy a PDF version.
