Cheers! And, tricky, I couldn't find a single image of the ychen. I imagine them as something like the oliphants in LoTR crossed with the shaggy beasties from Star Wars. Or you could think of them as huge bulls crossed with mammoths. Or someone may find a picture if they have any old celtic folk tale tomes and post it to Mr Baur.

This critter kicks ass!

It also reminds me of one of Mike Kortes' early Dungeon adventures that takes place on top of a massive critter carrying a dungeon filled with gnolls on its back. Mmmm....delicious!

One nitpicky thing I noticed is that animals can't have an Int score higher than 2.

Interesting critter, though.

Glad you liked it, it's a great legend which plays only a very minor role in the afanc story, should be good fun with giants riding on the back:)

Tauster: just as a real quick size comparison, a wyrm or great wyrm black dragon is also Gargantuan. Some other Gargantuan creatures are the kraken, the purple worm, and the roc.

...what a great idea! *thumbs up* :o)

I really would like to see this giant beast in a future OD project! ...or maybe you can still use it in one of the dwarven cantons of the ongoing project?

Can you find an artist who gives us a picture? ...or several illustrations: one of the beast itself and one where it carries some structure. (I do sound greedy, do I? *g*)

I know the size of this creature is "collossal", but as a 2e-gamer I am not very familiar with what the 3.x rules say how large an ychen bannog really is. Thats why I'd like to have a couple of numbers to be able to describe this giant better to my players: shoulder height, distance belly-to-ground, lenght of the tail, size of the eyes, lenght of the fur (short hairs as well as the long hairs of the winter fur),... stuff like that.

Wow, something about this creature just grabbed me from the start. I've been building a campaign world of my own and I can just see these great beasts lumbering around the plains. Awesome creature. Quick question though, the deafening effect of the Bellow, is that permanent or temporary deafening?
