Hi,
I just noticed that on p. 61 of "Tales of Zobeck", one of the pregen Kobold characters got "Sarastra, Mother of Night and Magic" as its patron deity, whereas another one got "Hecate, Goddess of Night and Magic". How can these discrepancies - Sarastra vs. Hecate, Mother vs. Goddess - explained? If this has been discussed before, I apologise - in that case, I would be grateful for a quick reference.
Any thoughts? Thank you! |

I don't know the official answer, but I do know that Zobeck's gods are often known by many names. _________________ -Jesse Butler

Deinol got it right in one. Sarastra is her name in the North of Midgard, Hecate is her name in the South. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

Thank you, deinol and Wolfgang!
Three things:
1. Are the two different appellations "Goddess of Night and Magic" vs. "Mother of Night and Magic" also dependent on North/South, or is Mother/Goddess in her case generally variable? The description of the pregen char "Brengan" on p. 62 mixes the two, stating "Sarastra, Goddess of Night and Magic" (as opposed to "Sarastra, Mother of Night and Magic on p. 61).
2. So I take it that the two pregen Kobold PCs do not come from the same part of Midgard, i.e. one of them is not from Zobeck? "Erdok Eelo" (Sarastra) coming from the North (Zobeck? description says he was a miner), "Master Auggremar" from the South (description says he is a Chieftain's Son and Caravan Guard)?
3. Does that mean Zobeck is in the North of Midgard? The pregen char "Brengan" got "Sarastra" as well and is a former Guild Apprentice at the Arcane Collegium, thus very probably coming from Zobeck.
-------
Apart from these issues, may I give you my compliments, Wolfgang, on such a great little adventure? I plan to use it to introduce my group to Zobeck... |

1. I think the Mother/Goddess error is just a design/editorial oversight. Both terms could be used here, and there's no standardization North/South on it.
2. That is an entirely logical conclusion, though the pre-gens never say it explicitly. Caravan guard sort of gives it away, and the Zobeck kobolds are all mostly miners or gearworkers.
3. Zobeck is technically in the North of Midgard, though its central location means that plenty of Southerners from Triolo and Melano and Illyria show up. Not to mention exotic Mharoti imperial types from the East. _________________ Wolfgang Baur
