Well, there's more than enough work and there's always room for someone with talent at KQ.
let me know if you are interested in designing a logo, chapter opening elements, a feature article type treatment/layout, or something else. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

Ed, you know me but I'll answer your question anyway. Published freelancer. Some of my best gigs came my way through your intercession so I'll add in another piece of advice to this thread.
Find someone who's got a gift for making contacts with publishers and latch onto them like a starving crocodile. |

| I will also say, if you get work from a publisher, deliver early and often! I get lots of referrals from Justin Jacobson at Blue Devil Games. (I think it comes from when he emailed one day to say, "Can you write an entire chapter of this book? Like in two weeks?" I did it in less time.) |

Getting work in early is probably a good idea, as Varianor suggests. I've never even considered anything but 'through the door at the last second of the deadline by the skin of my teeth' approach.
What is anything in life without suspenseful lead up?

Sure, but what about your conceited credits hmm?
What are you trying to hide? |

I should have clarified. Only my RPG credits are humble. ;) The rest are about as subtle as a boner salad with neon dressing. |

Very humble indeed.
But I suspect a false front, a sham, a ruse! _________________ Wolfgang Baur

Early submission of quality writing will net you work time and again. The ability to take editorial direction is also a plus, because oft times the publisher has a different vision for the end product that you may have. Being able to take those directions and turn them into something the publisher wants (ie... listening) is another thing that will be noted. _________________ Ed Healy |

Pshaw! No false modesty here!
Larwood is the third largest entertainment concern in the world. Only Hollywood and Bollywood stand before it and I know you have plans to bring them down... |

Hal, without naming names... What have you learned from the last couple freelance projects? Three "watch out for"s and three "make sure to"s? _________________ Ed Healy |
