Thanks alot for breaking down the options Wolfgang!
When you mention option 2 do you mean work on a project that is already in the pipeline and getting feedback on what you are able to submit depending on the patronage you have signed up for or would I for example be able to pitch a setting to the experienced guys hoping they would support it and be a part of the lead team so I can have a say on the groundwork and feel of the setting and then it be a collaborative effect from there on.
Just looking to have my voice heard on that matter that's all as I welcome a collaborative effort and others views, ideas, suggestions etc |

Option 2 is pretty much about joining an existing project and showing that you've got the chops to lead a future project. Currently, some experienced patrons are honing pitches for exactly that (the deadline is March 1). This opportunity comes to Open Design 2 or 3 times a year, and the lead designer position is (as you might expect) hotly contested.
In that process, you can pitch whatever sort of project you like, and as a lead designer you would lay the groundwork for it and guide it through brainstorm, design, playtest, and off to editing. I can't give you a year's experience in that overnight or in a board post, of course. However, joining an existing project is the best way to see how it happens, and to see whether other people like your design work.
So... Joining a current project does two things: 1) you can pitch material on an existing project and see how it goes and also 2) put forward a pitch to lead the whole Summer 2012 project.
I suspect you aren't ready for part 2, but I've been surprised before by designers who come out of nowhere and do amazing things. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

I suspect you're also right on part 2 I know my strengths and weaknesses for the most part and I might be jumping in to the deep end if I was to put forward a pitch, but you never know!
I gather alot of the current projects in development at the moment have been up and running for some time. Would it be best to wait and see what's on the horizon so I can get stuck in at the beginning of the process? |

The Dark Roads project has been running for a while and is winding down.
The Journeys project has been running about 5 weeks and is moving quickly. There's still quite a bit to do.
The next project proposal are being written now, will go through screening and dev, and will be announced by the end of April.
Your choice, of course. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

| How do I know which projects are ones I could become a patron of? Maybe I am missing something, but I just don't understand how to figure that out. |

The currently available project is Midgard Tales, but it's on it's way to layout for the main book.
With that said, there will be a part of it, Freeing Nethus, which still requires design/discussion/playtesting, and is going to spin up when editing is complete.
The previous projects (which are publicly available) live here.

Yup! There's generally a post on the blog and the announcement also goes out on the Kobold Courier. If you're signed up for that, you should definitely see the announcement for the next project. (I suspect the next one is still a couple of months out, although I can't say for sure.) _________________ -Carlos Ovalle |

All true, the Courier and the blog are good sources. So is the Kobold Press Facebook page, the @koboldpress twitter feed, the ENWorld news page, the Paizo forums.
We really do try to get the word out, though the newsletter is probably the best way. It goes out once or twice a month. _________________ Wolfgang Baur
