I brought up this topic on another thread...

It's about adapting OD and Zobeck material with other settings.

I don't know how other people are doing with their own campaigns, BUT I find Zobeck/Open Design so EASY to adapt it's not even funny! Maybe it's because Ravenloft (my campaign) and Zobeck both have a dark side and they just mesh well.

It might also be because there are not too many products out there... (YES this sounds weird! Bear with me!)

And I mean this in a good way. We have the first Gaz. Not too complex and not shoving too much info down my throat: Just everything I need to grab and run with. And then we have the KQ page plus the odd article. It gives me time (working full-time with two kids) to digest the info and use it properly or adapt it.

Anybody else playing Ptolus, FR, Eberron or homebrew and having an easy time with this?

Maybe it has to do with the tropes (would that be the right word?) used?
Something universal in the material?

I will say that this is a great strength because I don't need to buy this and say ''This will be my next campaign!''. I use it as soon as I get it!

Any other opinions on this?

Patrick

I'm considering a Greyhawk based campaign in the fall (once I finish up my two games this spring and prepare through the summer) and am going to use some of OD and Zobeck in it. I just have to figure out where to place the city. Any suggestions are most welcome!

Please don't hate me, but I know NOTHING about Greyhawk... Sorry.

But I think they have a castle there right?

Smile

I'll get back later with stuff I've already used in my campaign.

I was thinking of replacing Ket with Zobeck and the other Free Cities. That part of GH isn't terribly detailed AFAIK, and as a frequently warred over border territory I think a group of city-states would work just as well as the canonical pseudo-Turkish Ket. I was going to combine the Yatils and the Ironcrags (which works with the psuedo-Swiss Perrenland). Siwal would go either in the already-Middle-Eastern Ekbir/Tusmit/Zeif area or further south in Ull/the Plains/the Sea of Dust. The ghouls can be underground wherever they fit best.

Just my 2c. I'm sure there are other places in Greyhawk that Zobeck would fit equally well.

http://canonfire.com/ is my favorite site for all things Greyhawk. It's got a pretty comprehensive set of user-contributed articles and links to other Greyhawk websites.

Mike

ETA: The "Top 20" link goes to the most popular articles; last I checked, there were some overviews of Greyhawk there, which might help you get oriented.

Hope that helps.

Yes, I agree! The material right now isn't tied into a huge, specific world setting. (It's there. We can glimpse it.) However, because it isn't heavily tied into a specific theme, and it's always been compatible with the 3.5 core (or easily importable in the case of Wrath of the River King), I find it plunks down anywhere.

Truth to tell, I think a lot of gaming material is quite fungible. However, once you get the heavy tarnish of an individual setting on it, the effort to plunk it down gets a lot harder.

I actually jut take Zobeck in bits and pieces and plunk them down in my hombrew city.

I play a heavy intrigue and RP game so it would be alot of wasted effort to move them to a new city, but I find using Zobeck as parts of my city (Io-Delethon, City of Gargoyles) that I have not explored or developed works amazingly well.
