When do we start discussing the next Open Design project?
I ask as I heard there have been some murmurs already on the podcast..."Cthulhu-esque" I believe was mentioned. |

Yep, the discussion has already started among the senior patrons for Halls.
The public discussion could start here now, I suppose, though I'd rather wait until July 1 or whenever the Halls 3E/OGL errata is complete. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

I would personally be very interested in seeing Open Design's take on horror, to be honest. A good ghost story is always fun - and zombie hordes even more so.
A survival horror adventure might be a bit difficult to pull off - I suspect the 4e version could handle this better mechanically than the OGL version could - but it's something that I know would get use in my group. A cthulhu-esque elder evils fantasy investigation adventure could also be really cool.
But that's just me. _________________ Neal Hebert

hmmm.
Yeah! I think I would really like to see Open Design do horror.
I'm not sure about "survival horror" though...unless it was more like arabian nights or zobek: several tales in which it would be okay for the expectation that there would not be PC continuity.
And, personally, I prefer the likes of Empire of the Ghouls, Wrath of the River King, and the current Halls of the Mountain King...a complete adventure that is whole.
I wonder if, going horror, there could be something like Alien... a locale that is cut off (island or lost boat maybe if going lovecraftian) or Asylum...that the players need to slowly discover what is going on while NPCs are redshirted left and right and players are sniped by nameless and hidden horrors. |

The other thing I'd really like to see is something of the Epic levels...not just a series of adventures either (akin to Zobek) but a full length adventure...spanning planes, fighting a demon prince or somesuch.
There just isn't much out there for Epic, likely because it is so hard to design. Thing is, though, I think Open Design is up to the task!
I wonder if a planehopping adventure could be done, maybe bringing in a guest writer (*cough* Jeff Grubb *cough*) or writers from the original planescape (*cough, splutter, cough* our own Wolfgang, Monte Cook, and so on *hack, sneeze, kerfluffle*)...something like beyond countless doorways, but instead of different new planes, a whole adventure.
The one caveat I'd add, though is that I wouldn't want a "save the multiverse" or even a "save a planet" adventure, but a political "deal with the major players to solve one or more events and change the players in the process". |

Horror definitely benefits from a "story in a bottle" or isolation generally. Zombie Wood does cut the party off from easy retreat, but not entirely. I agree that a PC bunker mentality is great for the genre.
Epic... Well, I confess I don't think it will muster the numbers it needs, for the same reason that 1st level adventures don't fare well. They're a special case, and most groups spend their time in the middle levels or "sweet spot". _________________ Wolfgang Baur

Yeah, I agree that Epic level isn't the most "magnetic" in terms of numbers, sadly.
I'm also still interested in "Angels of Our Better Nature" if I remember the title correctly. That sounded fantastic!
Also, a question: Did Zombie Wood ever come out in any form? |

Nope, Zombie Wood never went past the outline stage, and was not released. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

Thanks for the reply, and darn.
The writeup on amazon makes it sound pretty cool. |

It does sound interesting. I wonder why there is one for sale....?
Maybe Andrew Hind wrote it up after all. But I sort of think Gaslight woulda mentioned it... _________________ Wolfgang Baur

Yeah, I wondered that too.
I searched the net, though, and amazon is the only place that has it that I could find (and to pat myself on the back, I'm pretty good at finding used or out of print books).
It's also listed at other amazons (like canada and japan) but for even higher prices.
I suspect it is either a scam or an error. I can't believe that if it was released that one book would be so rare while Gryphon's Legacy is not very difficult to find. |

One could make an argument that Open Design has already done Horror very well! Empire of the Ghouls and Nicolas Logue's fine adventure Blood of the Gorgon certainly provide solid material. Not that I would mind more.
I would enjoy seeing any of the following:
Trollheim sourcebook/adventure previously mentioned
a truly magical labyrinth - ruled by the dark and terrible minotaur council with their shadow dancer troglodyte servants
massive wildnerness and/or swamp adventure
an extradimensional mansion - the original Mord's Mansion perhaps, with all that has crept in, lurked in, leaked in or gotten in over the years? |

Here's the link at amazon
Strange, it does have an ISBN, and looking up the 13 digit variant gives me this and it is discussed on the Gaslight Press site here.
There's a review here but notes that the reviewer got a "review copy" without maps or other details ...in September 2002. There's one copy for sale on Amazon for ...179.99? (with 4$ in shipping. ha!) Makes me wonder if it's the *only* copy.
It's listed with a number of page lengths-- 64, 87, 96. I've pinged Gaslight, we'll see if I get a response.
