Wolfgang,
What was the driving factor in making the new Imperial Gazetteer 4E?
Are there any plans on releasing a 3.5/PF version (like with the most recent OD Patron project?).
I ask because I'm really interested in your world building materials but not at all interested in 4E (we went with Pathfinder).
(Forgive me if this was asked elsewhere... I only did a quick forum search and might have missed it)

| Well, I'm down for the 4e version. Is there any chance a print version will be made available as well? |

I know it was a crazy endeavour before, but this is one that could go great as a dual edition project.

For a 3.5e/PFRPG version, it seems like the only change would be to a bunch of stat blocks. I think some of which have already appeared in other products. The fluff is setting neutral and it's fun and creepy. (I would love to run, or play, in it...) _________________ Matt

If the 4E version does well, there might indeed be a PF version. But I think I'd rather do a PF-from-the-start book, like Sunken Empires.
The dual-stat pain of Halls is still lingering. Not sure how soon I want to revisit all that.
Print version to be available here shortly. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

I'll also add this as the editor of IG:
The thing that makes IG great isn't the worldbuilding, it's the way that the worldbuilding informs the design and vice versa.
Do I think there's an excellent PFRPG sourcebook on Morgau and Doresh? Yeah, certainly. Do I think a direct conversion of the 4e sourcebook on Morgau and Doresh would be that sourcebook? Almost certainly not.
In IG, the things that stand out most to me - that make this a must-buy - are the things that 3e in any iteration doesn't handle terribly well, but are things that 4e handles adequately. I'd like PFRPG fans who want information on Morgau and Doresh to get a sourcebook that is designed with that system's strengths in mind rather than an approximation of a sourcebook designed for another system's strengths.
Though I wasn't involved in the Halls conversions, I did edit the Halls sourcebook. And though I think the Halls sourcebook is really great, I personally like the Imperial Gazetteer better. Maybe that's a function of what I like in gaming - love undead, lukewarm on dwarves - or maybe that's a function of the way the project was conceived and executed.
I don't know for sure, and I've already incorporated elements of both into my game. So maybe that's a moot point.
But that's my two cents. I'd rather fans of PFRPG get a book designed with the strengths of the system in mind rather than a port of a book designed to maximize the strengths of a different system. It's a way to protect OD brand integrity, and just a best practice: though I'm no Forgeite, I do think Ron Edwards was right when he said that "system matters," at least when it comes to stuff like this.
A Call of Cthulhu sourcebook ported into ORE wouldn't really make a good Unknown Armies sourcebook, and vice versa. Others might disagree.

As someone interested in design, I'd love to have some specific examples of this. Thanks. |

As someone who isn't particularly invested in one edition over another, I'm happy to purchase another book about the Ghouls of Zobeck - but I was already a patron of Empire of the Ghouls. How much new material is in the Imperial Gazetteer? Is it worth buying if I already have the PDF of EotG?
Thanks! |

I haven't read EotG yet.
I *think* most of the material is new.
We'll have to wait until Wolfgang or Scott come in and answer for sure though. |

A fair bit of the material (30% at a guess) duplicates material from Empire; for instance, the locations of the Empire are the locations of the Empire, though the version here is for a sourcebook, not an adventure. There's a few areas where material was refined or expanded slightly, but those existing locations haven't changed. There's no timeline advancement or the like.
The majority of the book is new, at least 60% and perhaps 75%, depending on what you count. This new material includes all the lore and locations for the Principality of Morgau & Doresh, for instance, all the Baba Yaga material, all the Red Goddess and Order of Ghost Knights material plus all the 4E stats for monsters (some new, many updated from the 3.5E ones in Empire). Also new and revised 4E stats for gear and magical items, new cult information, and edits and amendations to the text.
If you are playing 4E and want stats for Empire, this is DEFINITELY worth it.
If you are playing Pathfinder or 3E and are just interested in the Morgau section, it might be worth it. That's about 25% of the total.
If you are playing Pathfinder or 3E and plan on running Empire as it is, you certainly don't need it. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

Hi Wolfgang,
I am thinking of getting this. BUT I am a 3e-PF player right now. And I am weary of buying 4E stuff.
I don't want to encourage it (except for KQ which really treads those waters well - I can live with what's done there). Not because I hate 4E or anything (please no bashing). -
But more because I want to use what I buy and not have to convert it. And I know Wolfgang respects that.
My other concern as a consumer of the Zobeck setting is that I might have blind spots in my Zobeck world because of swinging from one edition to another. I assume you thought of this Wolfgang?
I don't know if I'm the only one in this situation right now.
I hope I'm making sense, I've had the flu for three days now.
I know for the time being, I will vote with my money.
Just get back to me if you can...
Even PM if you want, I don't know if anybody else is interested in this...
Thanks!

Yes, I do understand the concern, and it may be that Terraleon steps up to create some Pathfinder stats for this and we release a second edition. Maybe.
My main concern is twofold, and there may not be any easy answer to the problem:
1) Doing every project as a dual-edition project means doing less projects overall. There's just no way to do all the extra design, edit, and layout required without cutting things off the schedule.
2) Sometimes, a project fits better into one edition. In this particular case, most of the monsters and crunch exist in a 3.5 version in Empire of the Ghouls.
And get well soon! _________________ Wolfgang Baur
