I'm using Safari, and I have the following issues with the forums
1) it doesn't remember I've logged in after about an hour or so of inactivity.
2) every time I re-log in, it's forgotten what is up to date for me, so keeping track of new messages is hard.
I have my reasons for not wanting to use Firefox for this, as I use Firefox as my work browser, and Safari as my personal browser to keep the cross-contamination at a minimum. Plus, Firefox, as far as I remember, isn't 100% working in these aspects either. |

Yeah Dude, I got Safari at home and while I can post to the message boards, I can't post a comment on articles. What's that about?
Explorer works okay. |

| I generally don't use Windows, only if there is a game I need to play, or a char generator I need to run... so Explorer isn't an option. |

Thanks for posting this, I'm having exactly the same issue with Safari (on OSX 10.6.5) as well. Although strangely, the 'view posts since last login' filter works fine. |

That's what I always use. It doesn't require cookies because the database knows when you last logged into your account. So all the info it needs is server side. _________________ -Jesse Butler

Thanks for reporting this! The webmaster and most of the kobolds are on Windows, so there's literally no way we would know about a Safari bug unless someone brings it up.
That said, the OP's 1st point, about logging out, is deliberate time-out. Your forum login and store login are connected, so by logging into the forums, you are also logging into the store, and if it didn't log you out, anyone with access to the machine could buy whatever they want from the Kobold Store --- using your account.
That said.... Tracking new messages is just a function of enabling the cookies for this site. That's where I'd investigate first to see about a fix.
If there's a Mac/BBS expert around, I'd love to hear from them. I'm not sure quite where to start. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

I am RAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNGGGGGGGG!
The forum set up is so annoying. I go the forum and it ALWAYS (using Windows XP or 7, IE or FFox) asks me to log in. I enter my log in details and it takes me to my account page on the store. There is no link from store to forum so I cannot go to the forum without navigating away which logs me out. The only way for me to log in is to go to a random post (like this) click add reply then it asks for log in. After I log in then it takes me to the new reply page and not the store page. Then I can go and see the Midgard forum.
What is wrong with this forum, it seems like it takes you to the freakin store not the forum. HEEELP! This is on three dif PCs BTW |

Thanks for reporting this mach1pants, and sorry to hear about the frustrations. It sounds bad, and I thought we had resolved all the login issues a year ago.
From the webmaster:
Likely he needs to clear his cookies for the site. This is mostly an issue with the default security settings in Windows 7. Make sure KQ is a trusted site and that it is not blocking cookies.
FWIW, I log into the forums directly on Win7/Chrome and Win7/betaIE9 and WinXP/Chrome and it never redirects to the store. Going through the Store is absolutely not a requirement.
I get the login box at the top of the Forum page, enter email and password, and that's it. I want to be sure it's that easy for you as well.
Please send me email and/or a screenshot if the cookies/trusted site bit doesn't work. We'll sort it out.
EDIT TO ADD: There is a direct Store link to the Forum, but it's not obvious. Look on the right, under information. Fifth down. I just clicked on it and it took me to the forums. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

Thanks Wolfgang. It wasn't the cookies (already tried that) but once I added as trusted site it worked

| This comes up enough it could be a FAQ. Thanks for that answer. I just tried it myself. |

I'd rather the logins weren't linked, if it's at all possible to separate them. I personally would have no problem authenticating a second time to validate a purchase - in fact, I'd rather do so on general principle.
Sync up usernames and passwords if you like, but unless the code is a nightmare I think separation is a worthwhile thing. I'm not the most active user of either site, of course, so take the feedback for whatever it's worth. _________________ Read yer Skull & Crossbones - Freeport-style pirate-themed cartomancy using Green Ronin's Walk The Plank cards.
