I'm going to Barnes & Noble tomorrow. I'm going to buy a couple new books. Any suggestions? _________________ Ed Healy |

| I don't read much sci-fi or fantasy *gasp!*, but if you've never read anything by Chuck Palahniuk, I suggest Survivor, Lullaby or Rant. Also, Christopher Moore's book Lamb is a fun read. |

Have you read the Vlad Taltos books by Steven Brust? What about the "Guardians of the Flame" series by Joel Rosenberg. Both of those - in my opinion - are very good reads. _________________ John Ling

Assuming you're already familiar with Charles Stross...
(if not pick up some of his stuff, he's doing major work in the SF field plus he created the Death Knight and the slaadi back when he was still a hardcore gamer)
One writer I'd suggest you check out is Tobias Buckell. His third book just came out so if you like him he's easy to get caught up on. "Crystal Rain" his first novel offers up a very fresh take on one of my favorite SF subgenres, the lost colony. |

The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay
Get it. It really is as amazing as its reviews would lead you to believe. |

Dan Simmons.. Hyperion, followed by The Fall of Hyperion
Or... Illium, followed by Olympos.
In either case, the first book is always a set-up for the dynamite second book. |

Body of Lies, if you like the modern thrillers.
Anything by Richard K. Morgan if you love ultrablack noir SF.

It's actually hard to know what not to recommend.
There's a library's worth of classics out there. Pick up The Good Earth by Pearl Buck, give Silas Marner a shot. |

Is the movie that's out now based off this book? _________________ John Ling

Yeah, I heard there was a movie. The book rocks, regardless of how the movie treated the complex plot involved. _________________ Wolfgang Baur

_Etched City_ by KJ Bishop was great for a very grim and gritty fantasy book... The Praxis trilogy is a fantastic SciFi series by Walter Jon Williams. Any of the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher are a fun modern take on a Wizard playing Private Detective...

"Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" - John le Carre
I've been watching the miniseries with Alec Guinness as George Smiley and I'm quite intrigued now. |

| Not fiction, but I am reading David Sedaris' "When Engulfed in Flames" right now and enjoying it, laughing out loud quite often. |
